re: Taken to the ER, get cleared, and have to go back to the ER because they got it wrong

ER doctors don’t make shite IMO compared to the amount of debt and responsibilities they have. Nobody’s mad about how much doctors make, even when they make mistakes. It’s just F’ed up for an error to be so expensive as a consumer/patient.

Just refuse to pay the bill for the first visit based on documentation of what happened. Argue it like you just bought a new fridge that doesn’t cool, a new mower that doesn’t cut, or a new computer that won’t boot up. At minimum you should be able to negotiate this down directly with hospital bill collectors if you whine enough intelligently.
I wouldn’t pay that shite.
I wouldn’t pay that shite.

If your friend went to the ER and gave the history of 30mph bicycle wreck and c/o shoulder pain and an X-ray was done and read as negative, then they fricked up. I’d have an attorney friend write a letter to the CEO and ask that the bill for the visit be waived. More than likely they will.
And the dizziness/clamminess could be postconcussive syndrome or pain or both.

You have no idea what you are talking about. There are legit state panels in many states, Louisiana included I believe, and written standards for malpractice. This has nothing to do with capitalism. Go back to selling printers or whatever the hell it is you do that makes you feel so important. So much ignorance in this thread. Just stop- you are clueless.

This break basically means that all the training this person has done over the last 6 months is useless. Won’t be able to do the Waco Half Ironman at the end of October.
But just think of the war stories you’ll be able tell your CrossFit/Ironman buddies!!!!

“Broke my right quadrilateral clavicular in 96 places. Doctor made me sit out the October race, said I could die. But I bootstrapped the November Wilmington weekend Warrior extravaganza for a PR, 2nd in my age group, would’ve been 4th in the age group below me and 6th overall. With minima training and grueling shoulder pain, no less, all the while. shite. Can’t wait to get back in the box 24/7.”

Does the exaggerating/hyperbole make you feel better or something?

and this ER wanted to do their own XRay. The clavicle has multiple fractures. Amazing the first ER Doc missed them all.
Sounds like the first ER doc said something like “I looked at the images and didn’t see a DISPLACED fracture which would require different treatment, but I’m not a radiologist. The radiologist will look at it later but until then wear the sling and follow up with your primary care doctor.”
If he has some small hairline fractures, he’s already in the sling
If not, then take the sling off, no harm done
Why else would he put him in a sling?

There are multiple fractures. They’re seeing an orthopedic doc today.

What kind of fractures? That’s important
The fact that they are seeing an orthopedic today is irrelevant

The plan of care change is relevant. No fracture meant seeing the primary in a couple days and the expectation of a 2 week recovery. Multiple fractures means see the ortho asap and 6+ weeks.

Do you even realize how difficult it is to take a proper CrossFit selfie of your WOD with a smashed clavicular?

Ok, still not something you need to wait around the ER for.
If the ER doc told y’all to wait around for 8 hours until radiology could read it you would be starting a thread saying how it’s ridiculous that you have to wait 10 hours in the ER.
Why don’t we see what the fractures are and what the ortho doc says before y’all get all hot and bothered

The ER doc reads the films theirselves. When Monday rolls around. The radiologist reads it and finds the break. Happens quite frequently and is why the rad reads behind the ER doc.
OT answer: maybe it was fractured and not broke .
