Re: ‘76-‘77 Pontiac Grand Prix Model

The doors were each roughly 29.75 feet long.

The Air Conditioner would flash freeze an adult human in 22 seconds.

~ 20 mpg with the V8 350 CID 2V. (Actual true fact)

Z cars were awesome.
I had an ‘82 280ZX Turbo and an ‘84 300ZX Turbo, both with T-tops. The T-tops were great for a lakefront cruise back in the ‘80s.

1978 Grand Prix with T-tops. In-dash 8-track-
Perfect for hitting signs with Miller ponies.
Feel guilty for littering, but good memories.

It was a great set up. Don’t know why it died.

because the gasket seals always leaked and the tops got lost, broken, or stolen.

i agree it "could" work today but it would still have the same issues with the gasket seals always leaked and the tops got lost, broken, or stolen. and for that reason i dont think it would be as big a seller as people are thinking it would.

thats why most prefer a retractable sunroof today, the gasket seals dont have the same leak issues and the tops stay attached so they cant get lost, broken, or stolen.

I was sold a Nissan Pulsar by someone who posts here, in the mid-90s. It was a good bit past its prime, but I ragged it out further on the potholes of my drive each morning as a Co-Op Engineer for Allied Signal, near Exxon-BR, then down to CEBA for classes.

I absolutely friggin' LOVED the T-Tops though!!! On a nice Autumn or Spring (or Winter) day... that was the shizzle. (I really don't know what shizzle means... just felt right)

Now that hydroformed frame rails are common (no chassis flex) and cowl shake is mostly a thing of the past, they would work much better than before.

Even back they in the day a straight roof car with T's had much less of an issue than curved roof cars (looking at you 77-81 Firebird/Camaro).

Everybody wants targa or sunroofs now, pretty much.

Had a Camaro Berlinetta with T-Tops back in the mid-late 80’s. Fun driving with the tops out.

I had an '84 280 that I bought in '90 and kept for ten years. I always had a pickup for work but it was a fantastic second car for fun.

Use to love mine, would pop them off anytime the weather was nice. Couldn’t hear shite in the car flying down the interstate though

They exist today in slightly different form, the "Targa" top, same thing, but no center bar.

Corvette, and Porsche have offered it forever, Acura NSX and some Jags have them.

First new car I purchased had T-Tops. It was fun, but aggravating to store them in trunk. They leaked as well.

Targa tops are available in high end sports cars.

Manufacturers aren't even really making any convertables anymore on the moderate end.

The money for manufacturers is in trucks, SUVs, and CUVs right now.
