People that think EV’s will save the environment.

I will probably be the last person on the planet who drives an internal combustion engine. I will do so as long as I can find fuel for it.

I have absolutely zero desire for an electric vehicle.

Can these even be installed in some garages? We tried to get an additional plug installed in our garage a few years ago and the electrician said it wouldn't be to code and he couldn't do it. I wanted an outlet without a GFCI, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Yeah I had the same issue when I built my house. So I let him install it (so it would pass inspection) then the first weekend I was there I removed it and installed a regular plug. My deep freeze was going to be plugged into it and I did not want it tripping.

I could be persuaded to buy an electric roadster. But I don't think we are ready for widespread adoption as a primary vehicle unless you spend most of your driving time in a metropolitan area.

And Ford and GM (going all EV) are going to miss out on sales to Toyota, who have been slower to transition to EVs.

I imagine running multiple outlets to your garage, provided you have one, will be an expensive up front cost for many people.

My next vehicle will be a toyota. For a number of reasons but this is one.

Yep. Although I would probably incorporate couple of 220v outlets into the garage if I were doing a new build now just to futureproof it.

Retrofitting an 60+ year old house is going to be expensive.

Once they figure out how to power EV's with solar panels on the vehicle roof, most people will want one.

Hail storms are going to be an even bigger pain in the arse when we get to that point. Imagine living around San Antonio working at a place with 40% or more of the vehicles in the parking lot, and baseballs start falling from the sky. Not only is everyone going to need new windshields and body work, they're going to need a whole new charging system.

But solar charging, even if not perfect, alleviates the issues of having to stop for an hour every 3-4 hours of driving to recharge on road trips and should be sufficient for city dwellers without off street parking to get enough juice to run errands around town.

The small surface area available on top of a EV for mounting solar panels would not provide enough energy after a week in the sun to offset even a hour of driving.

he was bullshitting you to get out of the job. Nobody makes a 240V GFCI plug, what's used is a GFCI two-pole breaker which provides exactly the same protection. A 50A version runs about $100. A family friend has two Teslas with built-in 240V chargers on two
walls of his garage, both with NEMA 14-50R outlets in the wall and 50A GFCI breakers in the main panel.

You didn’t read the post correctly, the poster wanted a 240 bolt outlet with “NO” GFCI protection which bring in a garage would not be to code in most places.

Solar modules do incredibly well during hail storms. All the decent ones are rated pretty high impact force. I can count the number of hail damage claims I've heard of on one hand and that's out of over 100k systems across the country. Even those were only a couple modules damaged.

Was in a tesla store two weeks ago. There was a line to purchase/lease their cars. They are fine

Tesla's charging stations are much more robust and available throughout the country. I was researching the Mach E and Ford's charging network is so bad it's embarrassing.

20%?

I don’t know what to make of that number.

What is the % of people that buy a convertible sports car after owing one already?

What about the % repeat buyers for trucks?

I have had several EV’s and they have their pros and cons like all vehicles.

But anyone who buys one BEFORE figuring out if it fits their needs and making plans for charging it, ..... well they are an idiot.

I want to know the percentage of people who buy giant SUVs to haul around little billjaminaxon and his travel ball team, then realize he isn't going pro and sell it for something they can actually park.

It's almost as though being a first mover to encourage the development of the infrastructure is a burden until the infrastructure is in place.

Which is why plug in hybrids should get adopted WELLLLL before full blown evs.

most people with EVS drive only 30 miles a day anyways. Get a rav4 prime with the 50 mile range and you'll never need gas unless you're making weekend trips or you need to cycle fluids.

Oil is not comprised of dead plants/animals. At this point science points to the abiotic process being the most likely source of oil.

Not just people with EVs.
