The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a restrictive New York gun law in a major ruling for gun rights.

The justices’ 6-3 decision is expected to ultimately allow more people to legally carry guns on the streets of the nation’s largest cities — including New York, Los Angeles and Boston — and elsewhere. About a quarter of the U.S. population lives in states expected to be affected by the ruling, the high court’s first major gun decision in more than a decade.

Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for the majority that the Constitution protects “an individual’s right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home.”

In their decision, the justices struck down a New York law requiring people to demonstrate a particular need for carrying a gun in order to get a license to carry one in public. The justices said the requirement violates the Second Amendment right to “keep and bear arms.”

The dissent is hilarious. It doesn’t mention laws at all just cries about gun deaths and mass shootings. Again, the jurists on the left only think in terms of feelings when facts would show that outside of 2020, firearm deaths have been declining year over year as gun ownership skyrockets. fricking idiots who shouldn’t be judges if they apply feelings over the law.

Imagine having to prove to the authorities in New Orleans that you need a gun outside your home in New Orleans.

Based on a quick overview, this simply strikes down the "don't issue concealed carry license without a shown need for it," laws in a handful of states. It doesn't mean states can't still require concealed carry permits, correct? This doesn't give blanket constitutional carry to everyone in the country.

This is Breyer’s first paragraph in his dissent. Absolutely nothing to do with what is legal. And everything to do with feelings while ignoring decades worth of trends and facts.

So can the Louisiana Legislature finally let constitutional conceal carry ride?

Well, the justices on the supreme court who are liberals think they are activists instead of just interpreting laws like they're supposed to.

This is a rare win for sanity in this country. You can almost feel the pendulum starting to swing back away from the crazy progressives who have hijacked society over the past decade or so.

Should have said "the Constitution protects 'an individual’s right to carry a handgun outside the home.'” Qualifiers like "for self-defense" are fodder for other types of creative restrictions for the left.

Could turn into mostly peaceful, but fiery protests next week once the abortion decision is released.

that was likely regardless of the SC outcome. At least now, the good guys have a chance to defend themselves

Correct. New York is the worst. You needed to show you required a gun for a “special need” to own one at all. Even in New York having one in your house requires a license. That is still fine. The problem was the “special needs” clause of the law. No one should have to show they need a gun for a special purpose liking hunting or general protection (which is why the state was sued in the first place).
