I’m not worried about that in the slightest. There are plenty of gofundme freeloaders you’re free to give however much money you’re stupid enough to part with on your own without forcing others to do it.

Way more PPP fraud and somehow there aren’t near enough people clamoring about this.
Wait you think this board/site hasn't railed against PPP fraud?

quote:completely agree. But forgiving student loan debt doesn’t change that.
Legality of the student loan forgiveness was dubious as best and PPP was legal, but from a strictly moral standpoint, PPP was legal fleecing of the American public.
if anyone wants to argue that loan forgiveness is good for the economy I’m all ears but I haven’t seen that argument. All I’ve seen is that this is somehow owed to them because of evil lenders and high prices or something
and as another guy said this is necessary checks and balances. I don’t agree at all with many of the decisions this court has made but this one was the right one, regardless of how they got there

I think this board has railed plenty against the fraud.
But I think the PPP program itself was just a load of shite. There were an absolute frick LOAD of businesses that did BETTER during covid and those businesses still received hundreds of thousands in free money. I mean shite I know of one or two business owners who were significantly negatively effected by covid and declines in tourism.
I know about 12 other small business owners, all who received PPP money, who's businesses all had MEGA years in 2020 and 2021.
My employer received 500k in PPP money, every penny forgiven. We had the best year ever. All got large bonuses.
It's just kind of irritating when people claim PPP was "different" because the government shut down everyone's business. It's a gross exaggeration to hand waive away a GIGANTIC handout.

I wasn’t a fan of Biden’s forgiveness plan, but I do recognize the student loan system is broken and needs some sort of overhaul

Great point. The fact that you went into debt for something of value versus going into debt for an obscenely overpriced and very frequently useless "education" should not be a factor in the priority of government handouts.

How about the government just gives out $1 million checks! That’s even more money into the economy!

Student loan system is broken. Why are low interest loans not available any longer? My grandson is a freshman at an in-state school. Cost is $20k. A friendly loan from Sally Mae costs $80k if paid back on schedule. That is for his freshman year alone.
Instead of student loan forgiveness, we should be providing low interest access. It is the accrued interest that is making it difficult on these kids.

Well when you create a system that high schoolers can take out loans that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy, it's going to cause colleges to charge insane amounts of money because they have zero skin in the game.

I would be okay with them repaying 10k of all student loans
IF
1. Federal Government was forbidden to every back student loans again.
2. Only allow grants for those in Stem programs with a >3.0 gpa

Tuition inflation was already high and then the Federal government stepped in and guaranteed all student loans (early 00s?) and everything skyrocketed.

Chump change. The Catholic Church got $3 billion in PPP to pay molestation settlements

Not relative to the sheer amount of fraud and waste that took place.
The outrage/fraud ratio is completely fricked and I frankly can’t take anyone seriously that isn’t constantly bitching about PPP but whines about other shite like food stamps.
