but the government forcing someone to conduct commerce against their wishes isn't exactly minor either.

Who’s forcing anyone to conduct commerce? You feel you must discriminate against law abiding citizens due to your religion then put your money where your mouth is - close your shop or don’t open one at all.

If the government can FORCE this person to bake for someone, where does it stop? I personally do not like the baker's choice of refusing service but I respect that he is the business owner and can say no to someone. If the baker wants to refuse a sale that is his decision and not one the government can force on him.

But what about small towns where there is THE baker/photographer/etc instead of many options?

Well, in that case, suing the baker out of existence harms the entire community then doesn't it? More of the Whacked Out Left logic: If I can't have my weird nonsensical way then nobody can get any either!

Businesses reserve the right to refuse service. And if they don’t want to do that, just quote an outrageous price so they go elsewhere.

This is one of those where it sounds good and legit but in practice, it doesn't quite work that well IMO.

Learn to bake your own cake and take your own pictures.

I thought the baker only refused to bake a gay cake but would bake any other kind of cake, so not actually refusing service. Guess that is somewhat of a question.

Are you serious? A business has the right to do business with whomever it chooses! What puts the customers rights over the owners rights? This is a free country, the customer can go elsewhere

That was the argument we pro-freedom types used in the smoking ban thread - that it was up to the business owner and no one else. Amazing how many statists there were when the state’s tyranny aligned with their selfish interests.

Seems like that’d be the perfect opportunity for someone else to make a living and capitalize on those that prefer a more open minded business.

That’s great until your town’s businesses get bought up by a bunch of Muslims who wont serve anyone but Muslim men with beards.

From this I take it you're one of the loons who think Muslims are all feverishly working to take over the US and one day we'll suddenly wake up and THEY'VE TAKEN OVER!!!

It amazes me people actually believe such nonsense.

A business owner should have a say so over who he wants to do business with. He may find out down the road that this is detrimental to his bottom line and change his mind. The government does not need to be involved.

This board agrees with this until you say it about smoking in bars
