People need to realize how messed up it is. A buddy of mine told me on an average night, LSU police have more officers on campus than 2nd district has on street. 2nd district covers from Florida street south to bluebonnet and the casino

Not messed up. One area of the parish has 97% of the murders, violent crimes, etc. The second district pretty much only has to worry about car burglaries, people stealing boxes of Amazon off front porches, high school parties, privileged white kids with drugs. I am not saying any of those are good but that is a lot less than the murders North of LSU.

Ok, would you be surprised to know that there are approximately seven officers working the street per night in 1st district? That's counting one per zone and desk man

Also just adding. 2nd district is actually the busiest district in the city, call volume wise. Giving an example of manpower shortage in uniform patrol.

You all act like Baton Rouge was immune to murder and was Mayberry at one point.

You don't think that a giant spike during a downward trend is a problem?

Didn't BR go from its lower homicide rate to its highest in one or two years?

But let’s not forget that the BLM people’s solution to the Sterling shooting was that the officers should have arrived in greater numbers so they could easily subdue that big fricker instead of shooting him.

Still not really that surprised. A.) Who would WANT to work that district? B.) That district wants less policing so why not give it to them.

It's not about "want" it's about manpower, officer safety and putting officers in high crime zones.

I am pretty sure young officers out of the academy shouldn't be able to say "I would rather bocage area over Dixie". Screw a "want"! You get your arse in uniform patrol where needed.

I believe so. BUT, Carl was the wrong color for the current clown show administration.

The Mayor, the DA and the cops need to have another block trash clean up day.

I realize they don't get to say "Yea I'm not going to work that area" but I can promise you I wouldn't be the first to jump when a call comes in. It also wouldn't matter if we had 7 or 700 officers in that area. These homicides would still happen with the current climate of that area.

ETA: You would only be able to solve some of these cases more often.

Kip let the numbers decline. One year he didn't even hold a new training class.

Then Broome came in and crushed dept. morale.

BRPD suffers from a lack of leadership and planning. We need boots on the ground, guys on the streets and not all these desk people and PR types.

The mayor is not doing her job, the judges aren't doing theirs, and I don't see the DA doing his either.

Where's the leadership?

Broom’s hands off policy may speed things up paradoxically.

More people killing each other means fewer people living there between the victim and any caught perps.

At some point the supply of hood rats starts to dwindle and stupid white people start moving into the cheap houses in the Hood.

You are right. A murder will happen whenever. However, you say that area does not want to be policed. Tell that to the eighty year old lady who lives on bogan walk who hears a bump in the night and thinks her house is being broken in at 3am in the morning. The one who is crying because she is so scared and hugs you and thanks you for coming out.

The math doesn't work there. There are tons more future thugs born to unwed mothers in NBR than there are murders.

Also, parts of NBR are close to the Exxon refinery which makes it an undesirable place to gentrify.

I am not saying everyone that lives in district 1 disrespects / wants less policing but there is a substantial percentage of the area that does not want police in the area. I realize most people in the area just want to live their lives and are struggling to get by. I am mostly referring to everyone complaining about the police over the Sterling situation.

Let’s not forget that the BRAVE program brought about some of the lowest homicide numbers in decades. The new mayor killed that program, and its aggressive patrol tactics, off in favor of social programs and giving contract money to Silky Slim to counsel young black males. Within a year, we are on track to a record homicide rate.

The Mayor is literally killing off her own voters.
