BRPD suffers from a lack of leadership and planning. We need boots on the ground, guys on the streets and not all these desk people and PR types. The mayor is not doing her job, the judges aren't doing theirs, and I don't see the DA doing his either. Where's the leadership?

Excellent point, but It’s not just the BRPD. It’s the top on down. This entire city suffers from a lack of leadership, vision, and planning. The city is sleeping and the people themselves are sleeping, all choosing to see the city they once knew growing up rather than the city it’s become due to the lack of action. If something doesn’t change and quick, there’s not going to be a place in either BR or what people like to call the St George Refuge in the near future where you will be able to hide from it any longer. This shite is growing as fast as the demarcation line between what’s considered NBR and SBR has changed in my lifetime.

It’s the sleeping and nostalgic addicts that really cause me pause for concern. That doesn’t give me much confidence in anything getting fixed or improvement taking place, just getting worse over time.

Actually, yes. From around 95-2004, the murder rate went way down. It spiked after Katrina and then went down again. It has really spiked since Ferguson.

It's changed a lot. I know some older people that live in the northern parts of Sherwood Forest that say they hear gun shots all of the time.

South Sherwood, areas of Coursey, Flannery, College, Siegen. They are nothing like they were 20 years ago.

It happens in every city in America. All the white people move out of the city to the outskirts and surrounding area then the city becomes more urban.

When did it go down after Katrina and before Ferguson?

Pretty much there too. I wouldn't classify that area as dangerous by any means but it's definitely declined from what it was.

We live in Woodland Ridge and there's plenty of trash right on the other side of I-12 and other close by areas.

While the murder rate, STD rate, etc is extremely high in BR, the area I live in is just fine. My main concern is as long as I feel safe where I live and where I go.

Eastgate, for not being the most desirable neighborhood, isn’t all that bad in my opinion. But, you’re right, the other side of I-12 is rough.

Oddly enough it isn't. It looks pretty rough but you rarely hear about crime there. There are a lot of Hispanics living there now.

Sherwood between I-12 and Old Hammond has gone completely downhill.

We don't have much crime at all in our neighborhood. The occasional vehicle burglary or stolen package is about all that's happened in the 5 years we've been there. I'm not sure if it will stay that way.

O’Neal from George O’Neal to say South Harrell’s Ferry is pretty much a dump that needs to be ground zero for a meteor impact.

And while Shanandoah is still a decent place to live, I’m not sure it will survive the next 20 years of all this.

O'Neal in general has declined quite a bit.

We live a few houses down from Episcopal High. We moved here because of the proximity to my daughter's school. She's got about 6 years left and we'll probably downsize once she's gone. Hopefully it will remain decent until then.

A buddy of mine told me on an average night, LSU police have more officers on campus than 2nd district has on street. 2nd district covers from Florida street south to bluebonnet and the casino

This is correct. LSUPD usually has up to a dozen cops sitting in parking lots bored out of their mind, while BRPD has 5 or 6 covering all of 2nd District running from call to call.

The EBRSO is the same way. They're lucky to have 4 deputies covering all of Gardere or Kleinpeter. People vastly overestimate the number of cops on the road at any given time.

I’m starting To prefer the Baton Ruadje spelling. More phonetic. And if you say it fast it rolls out more accurately. We need an OT ruling.
