Black mouth cur is the perfect family dog. Mine lived with me in a house and now lives with me in an apartment. They will guard you with their life while being the life of the party when people are over. If you want a dog that you can open the door and leave unleashed that won't leave your property, that's what you want.

German Shepherd

Not sure if you are in Louisiana, but there is a very reputable GSD breeder in Winnsboro.

Im not going to say the dog i own is the greatest dog in the world. He is stubborn and hard headed. I started late training him. I will say he is a good family dog and an excellent guardian. He also has an intimidating look and bark. Check into a French mastiff

This is our Kangal.

They are a little larger than you want.

But you will not find a dog more loyal to what they know and more capable of defending your family should the need arise.

They are an odd breed in that they are usually hard headed with men and submissive to women.

Warning: they are puppies until 4. He destroyed the laundry basket to lay next to my wife. Thats a size 12 next to his head by the way.

But first, find out if he's a republican or a democrat. (Seems like most dogs tend to lean heavily republican.)

Great Pyrenees.... Extremely protective and great with kids. We just lost ours a few months back to old age and god is she missed. Drift was her name and along about dusk anybody in the family leaving the house going out to their car or truck got a very menacing low growling escort out all the way to the car lol. They are amazing dogs..... Had some hogs a few years back and a couple times they broke out of the old pen. They did it twice and after she bayed them and run them back in a couple times they were terrified of her. Hell after that i could have left door open and them hogs would have stayed home LMAO!

Own 3 German shepherds that will be more than happy to give you a live demonstration at how much they enjoy guarding me and the property. Just don't come in the backyard.

We have a lab and a mini dachshund. The lab can bark and sound like a Rottweiler, but the truth is she is the sweetest thing in the world and would only lick you to death. The dachshund will bark and then try to eat your arse alive. She is not afraid of anything.

Are these family friendly? Was one of the breeds sticking out in my mind.

They are a high needs dog. They need to be put to work and kept entertained more than most dogs.
