Passing thru New Roads and Morganza on Christmas Day and dealt lines of traffic due to sugarcane trucks in morning and at night. Can anyone tell me why the need to haul sugarcane on Christmas Day? There’s got to be a reason.

Because they aren't done yet.

It's all illegal immigrants that do that. No need the time off.

Harvest as much as possible before freeze damage sets in.

Rain, sleet or snow grindging does not stop. The only thing that halts it is if there's a breakdown at the mill.

Not all people get off for the Holidays.I'm sure they've been hauling sugar cane long before you came along.

September through late December/early January. Work don't stop until the fields are cleared or the mill shuts down.

Cant hire any Americans for $100 a day. That doesnt compete with welfare benefits
Even at $20/hour doubt they could hire any Americans
30-40 years ago it was all poor white and black Americans in the field but they figured out they can make more sitting on their arse than working in fields all day

So once the mill is cranked up it’s a 24hr process till season is done? I’m ignorant on this process.

It’s called grinding season dipshit. Been happening at The same time for years. 7 days a week from October till when they’re done. Take a different route to wherever it is your going. Or stay home.

Asking question cause I am curious. Also thinking there have been vehicle fatalities due to these trucks being on they road at night. But if there is no other way then there is no other way.

They have 2 weeks after a freeze to harvest before the crop goes bad
