I remember this era of subway having a distinct smell. Not as much now.

That's not to say that Subway's bread doesn't contain a lot of sugar, compared to other sandwhich breads, it does. Just think it is a bit disengenuous to make the argument it is more similar to cake, when cake is more in the 100%-150% range 
.

Yeah why is everyone acting like Subway doesn’t have a unique smell.
And no, it’s not bread and cookies. If that were the case then lots if places would smell like Subway.

My wife's old office was above a Subway and it smelled like bread all of the time. People walked in and would say "damn it smells good in here". It was like a filtered version of the actual subway though, only the good bread smells slightly permeated the building.

They are in our building downstairs and I love the fresh baked bread smell in early mornings and the smell of the meatballs later in the morning.
That said, it has to be raining hard on a day when I'm really hungry to go there. They are not my preference.

Kinda. It just doesn't qualify for their tax credits for bread in Ireland. Doesn't mean it isn't real bread. Subway's fresh baked bread and cookies are probably their most redeeming quality. The rest of the menu is pretty bad except for bread and cookies. I only eat there when I don't have other options. But the bread is definitely good and just because it doesn't qualify for tax credits in Ireland doesn't mean it's not.

When I lived in Houston there was a bread place on Washington Ave. when you passed by that used to smell like a woman’s lady parts that were not well kept up. All I’ve got.

I don’t particularly like Subway, because it is just not hearty enough to satisfy me….basically a lettuce sandwich.
However, they seem to be made with quality ingredients…undoubtedly better for you than 90% of fast food options available.

This was even before they started sprinkling herbs and such on the bread and it was only white or wheat. Good memories, I ate well during that time.
