Walmart employees are non-union, get profit sharing, and can generally be replaced by anyone off the street if the chain wants to look hard enough.
They could attempt to strike but it won’t go the way they want it to.

UAW has been weakened over the years, thankfully. However, I would like to get down to the real deal of why its "tough" on these workers. I don't really see GM wallowing in cash, meanwhile every UAW worker is driving 1/2 ton pickups and pulling boats.
UAW workers are baws with bargaining power. If they get a bonus, they are buying a $50,000 domestic pickup truck and a fishing boat. Maybe a yeti cooler and a family trip to Branson or Orlando.
General Motors is much leaner than in the past. They making a lot of profit now. That’s probably why the strike is happening.
I don’t see Wal-Mart workers being able to successfully organize a strike.

Let both fail, as should have happened but Jugs bailed them out with our money.

A person briefed on the bargaining told the Associated Press that GM has offered the UAW new products for two assembly plants that it had planned to close.
GM says it presented what it believes was a "strong offer" Opens a New Window. including improved wages and benefits and investments in eight facilities in four states.
That’s a good offer. frick the UAW they’re the type of scum that caused the dramatic industrial decline of small towns in the rust belt and destroyed Detroit
Unions are largely the reason companies go overseas

Most Walmart workers make more than $10/hour.

Yep. Proof that unions aren't necessary in the auto manufacturing business.

Yes, it was the UAW that decided to start sending jobs overseas, churn out shitty cars with horrible reliability and awful MPG, not fund pension plans adequately enough, etc.
Is the UAW completely innocent? Hell no, but don't put decisions made by GM management at the feet of the UAW.

They probably are not really needed at the main plants. Where they are needed are the smaller parts plants that pop up in the vicinity of the Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai, etc. plants. Those places have pretty shoddy safety records and pretty low pay.

It's a joke but if you truly wanted to bring manufacturing back into the USA, open the border and let the low wage applicant pool grow again.

If you want to see the differences between a union and non-union plant, go compare the GM plants in Michigan and Kentucky to the Honda plants in Ohio.
The folks at the GM plants come in at 9, leave at 4, and take breaks every 30 minutes.
The folks at the Honda plants bust their asses from 8 to 7.
The difference in product quality is noticeable.

The end is near for unions.

The union has been having issues getting into the Toyota plants in Canada. I don't know if Toyota is that good of an employer or workers are just that scared that if they unionize Toyota would just move to Mexico.

I want more pay!
If you don’t give it to me, I’m not gonna work.

There was some union talk at the Toyota plant in Georgetown a couple of years ago, but it went away pretty quickly. Toyota does work people hard, but they are well taken care of with regards to pay and benefits.
I think if a union was somehow forced on them, they would close up those facilities. They are not letting unions degrade their reputation.

Elon Musk and Tesla are blowing loads over this news. Time for the driverless revolution. Old tech/labor, get the frick out of the way.

The right to organize and strike is as American as apple fricking pie. The right of companies to fire them and hire someone else is just as American.
