They were already among the highest paid in the nation.
The strike disproportionately impacts working class parents, who now have to find child care during the strike or skip work.

For the second time in seven years, Chicago Public Schools teachers will be on strike starting Thursday, walking out of class, they say, in the name of better schools.
Gathered on the stage of the union hall on Wednesday, the Chicago Teachers Union said its delegates were in full support of moving forward with a strike. Delegates had already authorized the walkout and set a date so it would have taken a reversal to cancel the strike.
"We have not achieved what we need to bring justice and high quality schools to the children and teachers of Chicago," said CTU President Jesse Sharkey. "We need to have the tools we need to do the job at our schools. We need pay and benefits that will give us dignity and respect. We are on strike until we can do better."
Altogether, more than 30,000 workers will be on the picket lines. This includes 7,500 teacher aides, custodians and security guards who members of SEIU Local 73. SEIU said Wednesday evening it had rejected CPS' contract offer and planned to strike on Thursday along with CTU.

Speaking at a press conference Wednesday, Chicago Board of Education President Miguel del Valle argued that the union had essentially gotten what it wanted. "They were concerned about the staffing issues, they were concerned about class size," he asked. "The mayor responded ... what's left?" But the union maintains that, even this week, the offers being made by the school district don't do enough to address their demands.

Teaching in Chicago public schools = a
HARD PASS for me. I can't believe they held out that long. In a 7 year year period, I place the "over" for assaults/frivolous lawsuits at 5.
If you are drinking through a straw, paying attorneys, or having your wages garnished...is the pay worth it?

Hate to say it, but the strikes must be working out for them

So the students will do about as much learning as they do on a regular day

Lol yes that’s what Chicago needs is better schools

Honestly they deserve a pay raise...it would take millions for me to teach at a Chicago public school. Too much culcha.

But at the end of 20 years, you get a pension that NFL players would envy.

I hope they bleed that city dry

I wouldn't teach in a Chicago public high school for 150,000$ a year.
And I'm sure they make less than that.

Looks like the city needs another infusion of cash.
Is there some other revenue stream they can sell off for pennies on the dollar like they did with municipal parking?

Sad but true.

They have recently legalized gambling and recreational marijuana. A new large casino is in the works.
But they also have catastrophic pension problems that will sink the whole state if there’s even a slight downturn. Which means that I have catastrophic pension problems as an Illinois taxpayer.

So the worst teachers in the US can make the most money?
Sounds reasonable.

Two of my favorite things:
Teachers and unions

I am sure that they can have the rest of the state foot the bill.

Further proof that governments should not own the school directly. If the society wants to "fund" education, it should work like food stamps.

Hahahaha. I like how the balloon sword hits her on her brow, and she crumbles as though she is in severe pain from the "assault."
And this is one of those cases where they keep throwing money at the symptom, but don't fix or acknowledge the true cause. You can throw all the money you want at schools, but if the parents don't care, the kids don't care...it doesn't matter, regardless of race.

My initial thought was that she was hitting the cop with a dildo until I saw it burst.
