Fire them all, start over. You chose that career path, just like everyone else chooses theirs. Entitlement is a serious problem in this country.

Give them the much needed raise they deserve and raise taxes to cover. I don't understand what the big deal is.

The city absolutely cannot afford to hire new positions or give anyone raises. The city is nigh bankrupt. They’re already stealing from pensions.

Not as loony as the west coast libtards, but more destructive.

How much are teachers being paid in your state?

These idiots are striking just down the block from my condo, and I'm pissed because not only did their stupid drumming and chanting wake me up at 7:45 this morning when I was trying to sleep until at least 8, but the other idiots in the cars and trucks (solidarity union brothers and sisters!) keep honking their horns.

I want to go out there and ask every person honking their horn how much cash they, personally, are willing to fork over to support the teachers demands.

Pics or it didn't happen

I love that part of their demands is that district commit to lobbying and advocating for a handful of new taxes.

Smart thinking, gotta get out ahead of your next strike in 3 years.

Honestly they deserve a pay raise...it would take millions for me to teach at a Chicago public school. Too much culcha.

It's mostly the parents but academia is also responsible for the culcha.

Checks out

Oh, and they are negotiating for this as well

In addition to bread-and-butter issues, teachers are hoping to force the city to commit to easing a housing crisis that has driven out many of the city’s black residents.

Yeah, in addition to all that fix the rising housing costs, gentrification, etc. A pretty straight forward issue that a city mayor can snap her fingers and fix. Jesus Tapdancing Christ.

Yeah, housing costs aren’t exactly the only thing driving out middle class black families. Might be that pesky horrific violence too....

Here’s a solution to getting affordable housing back in Chicago... rebuild Cabrini-Green.

Oh, wait, they don’t want “affordable” housing, they want to be able to afford to live in white neighborhoods at a cut rate price.

So let’s recap the demands:

-raise average salaries to just over $100k a year
-don’t touch our multi million dollar pensions
-keep our healthcare costs at basically zero
-hire thousands more support staff
-open dozens of new schools (in a shrinking district)
-demand the city pass new taxes such as a corporate head tax, a millionaire tax, and a city income tax despite already having the 4Th highest property taxes and thee highest sales tax in the country
-demand the city fix the housing crisis
-housing subsidies for lower paid staff

There’s more.

All in a city/state that is functionally bankrupt.

That would be if the city of Chicago were sane.

The mayor is going to bend over backwards to do all this shite plus give them a flux capacitor and the formula to turn lead into gold. (Their students already have the non-scientific version of the latter)
