If that GFS is correct 968 is a cat 2. I don’t think you’ll see mass evacuations for a Cat 2 storm.
That’s not to say people won’t leave, but I’m certainly not.
Yep, that's right on the edge for me. The Rapid Intensification question is what has me puckered.

Reed Timmer just posted this saying it could hit as early as Sunday

Seems to be much more disagreement on the forward speed of the storm than the track at this point.

Pretty rare for NHC to put out a "key messages" graphic for a system that isn't even a depression yet, but them doing so is an indicator of how quickly this will play out. People on the central Gulf Coast, particularly Louisiana, definitely need to get their preparations underway.

Who was the idiot that said on the day Katrina hit Pass Christian that Louisiana was spared by God because of having a democratic governor, meanwhile Mississippi was hit because of having a Republican governor?
I don't think Mississippi has been hit since....

Those are the TWO WORST CASE TREKS for our region.

Wouldn’t a very fast moving storm be better for us in some ways? Or do we want it to slow so it can move

We’d want it to get and out of here fast to reduce flooding.

James Spann mentioned the possibility of a landfall as early as Sunday afternoon. People are going to have a pretty small window to get prepare and/or evacuate (if evacuations end up being necessary).

Yeah slow moving and having time to strengthen is always better than a fast moving storm

And I thought fast moving storms had less time to build up massive storm surges like Katrina, Ike, and Rita.

Oh good. Right up the mouth of the river, the so called worst case scenario.

At least now that it’s going over Cuba the mountains are going to shear the hell out of this thing.

Should ping ping off cuba mountains and slam into the Yucatan mountains to put the final death blow on this thing.

Yep it would not be good. Another big problem with Gustav was the tornadoes but either way cat 2 that far inland is no joke
