Watch your local news. Make decisions on that info and not what you read here.

That’s some of the dumbest advice I have ever heard on this board.

I can’t imagine having to deal with storms 100 years ago. Our water is calm and sunny skies, no indication of something not too far over the horizon. Thankfully we have the ability to see the paths that these storms take.

My grandparents lived in south Florida. The local paper would print a two-page map of the Gulf and Caribbean. They would cut out the map (surrounded by ads from local businesses), mount it on a piece of cardboard, and stick pins in the map to plot the approximate course of disturbances they heard about from ships that came into the port at Ft. Lauderdale. I still have one of the maps from the 40s or 50s. They also watched the birds and saw how other animals were acting.

Columbus quickly learned to read what signs there were too and was able to avoid most hurricanes during his four trips. He doesn't get the credit he deserves for simply being a wise sailor. No one in Europe had ever seen a hurricane before.

Nothing beats the satellite images and other tools we have now, but folks made use of what tools were available to them back then.
