I don't drive my truck a lot and it's been a while since my last oil change so I decided to buy oil and a filter to do it tomorrow. I got 6 qts. of Penzoil 5W-30 in Full Synthetic and a new STP oil filter.

Got hit with $62 and change at checkout. My wife gets her oil changed at one of those in and out services and I asked her how much she has been paying and found out it's now a $100 pop for her. She said she'd rather pay the extra $40 to keep me from dealing with it in the driveway having to jack up her car and put it on jack stands just to crawl under it to loosen the filter and nut on the oil pan.

Pretty sure it was around $40 for the above the last time I changed oil and filter.

Go to Walmart. Same items would have been $40 there.

It's usually over 100 for me to get my oil changed at one of those quick in and out places

To me that's a steal if the difference is only ~40 dollars

Wal Mart has much better prices. So does Amazon.

I do agree that it’s outrageous how much a basic oil change costs these days.

auto parts store

This was your first mistake

The only time you should be buying anything from there is when you are in a bind

To me it's not the added cost, but not knowing if they're changing the filter or putting shitty oil in.

I like the peace of mind of knowing it was done right.

If it is the orange can of death, then you are right. They have solid filters in the upper end of their line. The Synthetic Endurance is one of the best filters you can buy, but I prefer the Purolator Boss personally.

He also bought that paraffin-based Pennzoil

Add 1/3 of jet fuel in your tank, and you could be Scootin'

It literally takes me 5, maybe 10 minutes to change my own. Most of that waiting on it to drain.
Plug out, swap filter, plug in, pour 6 qts in w funnel.

Save $60, easily

Then daughters mercedes. Maybe even easier. Filter on top of motor

I spend maybe 10$ more, but price at a shop is probably north of $130

Air filters are where they are flat out dry fricking people

Why did you ever make your wife change her own oil?

I’d rather pay to have it changed it’s less hassle than dealing with my neighbor’s complaining whenever I dump the old stuff in the storm drain.

I just go have it done somewhere just cause i don’t feel like doing it myself

So that $40 would be like a convience fee to me so i can sit in the AC and play games on my phone while i wait

I pay $100 for an oil change, tire rotation and car wash.

I remember not to long ago you could get an oil change at 5 Min for $30 with an online coupon. Adios to those days.

The price of a 5 quart jug of oil at Walmart has gone up recently from 25 dollars to 35 dollars for all the name brand synthetics like Mobil 1, pennzoil etc. I swear they all had an OPEC style meeting and decided to raise their prices at the same time by a set amount. Filters have also gone up by about 20-30%.
I checked the oil change change stores online to see what they were charging just out of curiosity and for a seven quart full synthetic like what I buy from Walmart for my truck they wanted 150-170 ish. We’re closing in on Venezuela style inflation…it’s fn ridiculous

Find a Walmart with a tire shop attached. Buy some groceries you were already going to buy anyway. Instead of walking out the front, you go to the back, ask the clerk of couple of dumb questions so you are on video inquiring about auto service, get the oil and filter you want off the shelf and into your cart, then walk back to the front of the store and show the guy your receipt for your groceries and he won't even notice the stolen oil and filter. The eye in the sky in the LP office won't be watching you because you just spent time at the auto service desk. Put the oil and filter in your cart before talking to the auto clerk.

This isn't rocket science yall.
