Sorry that train passed. A new school system was the first order of business until SG was told to become s city first; thus the city issue took over.
Also we see Central with their city putting millions in reserve. SG can do the same. That man can then be spent on making SG better and not spent on studies, grocery stores in NBR or on BRPD or BRFD or any of the other city services that we help pay for.

This is it. Everyone is frustrated and the people are voting against the status quo. But, I question if they really know what they are voting FOR. The proposed budget is WAY off and I believe the leaders know this.

Say, you would prefer property taxes go up instead of sales taxes in order to make the budget work. How will your "leaders" react if they disagree? Will they suddenly be respectful leaders?
But to think they can actually run said city? yeesh.

I would say roads, including synchronization, drainage, waste services, and police that actually investigate all crimes and not just murders, which statistically rarely occur in St. George.

Every crime is investigated, you just probably will never hear about it again unless it’s a big case.

Well I’m not sure what you mean by police investigations but I’m guessing the EBR Sheriff does an adequate job? I guess maybe I’m missing something there.
The other items you listed you have already and are about to get them a lot better with the road construction that is about to start and the drainage that will start.

Look at Central’s budget and situation and SG’s budget is realistic.

You aren’t making sense. SG people understand the issues and can decide for themselves if they want higher property taxes or less sales taxes. We don’t need the mayor to tell people what to do.
And we can talk about the issues but we aren’t going to debate people who lie about having our sewer cut off or our sheriff service stopped.
And if we were truly better together BR would have incorporated more of us years ago, but they didn’t because they knew they could take our taxes and not provide us with city services.
It’s time to end this scam.

If it was a parishwide vote, I'd agree with you. It's far too late in the game for people not to have decided. Plus the area, in general, isn't a bunch of retards that vote based off the the letter on their ballot box. Unless the person has been living under a rock or just moved here, the residents are more informed than your avg voter.
I"m sure she's been busy spending the Parish' money - since dey gots an unlimited amount of surplus cash to spread around.
I guess we'll also soon see Silky Slim riding to the recue, hauling voters fro the EBR Council on Aging sites to the voting booths -- using EBR vehicles, drivers and fuel.
Good thing our tax dollars are being well spent.
The current administration (SwB and her thugs/posse) arent bashful about spending our money during the canpaign. But she's got the nerve to promote "No New Taxes" signs in the the yards of the anti-StG voters.
I've about decided that the sheep are gonna vote "No."
Homeowners who can actually think appear to be voting "Yes."

It's crazy how much attention this is getting. I remember a little noise about Central but not like this. I guess it was a less populous area and not as big of a potential financial hit to BR? Shows you how much they've been pilfering from these people.

Where is the St George victory party on the 12th? I might stop by with my MAGA hat on and a handle of Southern Comfort after LSU waxes Florida.

I'll come have a few with you guys. We live one street over from STG inside of the BR city limits but I'm not opposed to it. I completely understand the effort. I grew up in Central and think their incorporation has been a net positive for the community. There's no reason why St George should be denied the same right to vote on their own future either imo.

This is actually a good example. The proposed StG budget is actually less per capita than Central and Zachary. Plus, Central is getting a free ride with respect to the Sheriff providing extra law enforcement. Even if it weren't so divisive, StG will not get this because BR and Zachary cannot supplement the extra law enforcement services for StG. And, state law will require a legitimate police department (again, Central gets off easy here).

You misunderstand my point and sorry if I wasn't clear. What I meant was that the "leaders" of the StG movement have generally shouted down anyone who disagrees with them. The point I was making is what would happen if a StG resident disagrees with how these leaders will make up for the budget shortfall. Some StG residents may want increased property taxes. Others may want an increased sales tax. The history of the "leaders" is that they will shout down and personally attack anyone who disagrees with them.

But our needs aren’t being adequately addressed proportional to what we’re putting into the pot. And there’s really no hope they will be by remaining unincorporated. It’s time for a change.
Understood. And look... the right of self-governance at the most local level possible, to me, if one of the basic tenants of freedom.
The struggles and pains of the first few years of St G may well be worth it to stop having your money wasted in NBR.
I just look at some of the people who are the public face of the St G movement, and I wonder... are these the people that are going to be your first mayor and city council? If so... I'm not so sure that's a good thing. Maybe there are some smarter, less bombastic people out there that will step up.

This is actually what baffles me. There is currently one pot of money of let's say 'x' amount. Currently, it pays for one city-parish government. If StG passes, this same pot of money will be split and supposedly pay for an additional layer of government (separate from the parish govt. under which it sits) including mayor, road works, and other StG administration, PLUS a newly formed police force, as required by state law.
We are supposed to believe that somehow StG will be so much more efficient, that it can offset these extra costs and provide more amenities to its constituents. And people actually believe this. I think some are so angry (legitimately so) that they aren't using proper logic to understand what they are voting FOR.

The parish government will have reduced obligations for some but not all services. There should be some reduction in forces.
The City of Baton will have to become more efficient because they will no longer have access to the surplus funds from the StG area.
BR will also have to start paying for their share of the EBR parish constitutional offices. No more allocating all of the operational costs (about $20 million per year) to the unincorporated area of EBR.
If BR chooses to operate as they have in the past, it is their prerogative to do so.
Maybe that 1 rated fire department is too expensive for the services provided. The StGFD has a 2 rating because the expense to achieve and maintain a 1 rating costs more than the savings of the higher rating.

Agree. But respectfully, you are not addressing my point. The LSU professors, the per capita budgets of Zachary and Central, and the logic I outlined above consistently indicates that StG will not have enough budget to operate.
Is the plan to follow the Nancy Pelosi model of government? (e.g. vote for the bill, then find out what's in it?) Kidding aside, I think many people are just so angry that they really don't care if their taxes go up -- they just want to be separated from NBR.

I had someone break into my house. I had a suspicion of who it was, including his address. The investigator couldn’t go to the address I gave him because the guy’s license still said he lived at his parents. That’s where they went twice waiting for his registered vehicle to show up. Baton Rouge Police suck at doing anything other than faking emergencies to run red lights and writing speeding tickets.

Road synchronization was supposed to happen 20 years ago. Quite a few of the road projects were also supposed to be completed 10-15 years ago. A smaller government can be held more accountable by its citizens. It can root corruption and waste out faster and more effectively. This is the main reason why I’m behind St. George.

The incorporation isn't the only thing at stake for St. George supporters.
They also have to have the right Governor who will not frick with them but rather outright support them and John Bel Edwards is completely opposed to St. George. He will put the wrong people in if St. George wins.
Why else would Edwards delay the vote as long as he could when Broome requested it?
St. George voters, when you vote for governor, vote for Ralph Abraham or Eddie Rispone. Either one is fine and will do a lot to help you if the incorporation is successful.

I am still registered to vote in EBR as I have not yet finalized my move out of state, so I was able to vote early. I voted NO to St. George, as the problems afflicting the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area are better solved by working together than by cutting and running. I won't be there to see it but would love for Baton Rouge to make something better of itself.
Your posts on the poliboard about the Governor's race makes so much more sense now.
