I am still registered to vote in EBR as I have not yet finalized my move out of state, so I was able to vote early. I voted NO to St. George, as the problems afflicting the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area are better solved by working together than by cutting and running. I won't be there to see it but would love for Baton Rouge to make something better of itself.

oh lord you just stepped on a lot of people’s tampons in here. Have an upvote for that alone.

Ive got $3.50 that says they take it to court, try to get some lefty judge to overturn the will of the people.

It’s usually what follows.

If the city of St. George happens then there is no longer a need for a Metro Council or Parish President/Mayor of Baton Rouge. It should revert to a East Baton Rouge Parish Council and a separate City Council over the City of Baton Rouge.

The City of Baton Rouge would survive as an entity for about 6 months if that happened.

It’s why they’re fighting the incorporation so hard. They’re incapable of paying their own way.

“Working together” meaning “SBR pays, doesn’t get shite, and gets called racist for complaining or not wanting to pay more.”

By November the closing should be done on my house. Moving out of EBRP. Really will not see the benefits of a new city or the disaster of staying as an unincorporated area.

My vote canceled his vote out and my wife voted Yes for the City also. St George is up +1.??

The next step, after incorporating, will be a push to redrawing the Senate districts. The UClub, Lexington and Harveston have the same state senator as most of NBR. It’ll be either Pat Smith or Cleo Fields- who in gods name drew up that district??

That’s a safe bet.

The line of selfish decision-making by BR leadership for years that has resulted in the current vote isn’t going to stop just because some good people decided to stand up against them.

Well at least you live in the area and voted. Half the people in here complaining about “outside forces” getting involved don’t live in the area themselves.

How specifically? What are the solutions? Will the city stop stealing $50 million a year from the unincorporated area?

I live in the NOLA area, so I have no dog in this hunt.

The more I read about St. George... the more I think their "leaders" have no clue what they are doing, except tapping into a desire for change. But to think they can actually run said city? yeesh.

BUT... these Together BR types are absolute trash, and are acting like thugs. It is disgusting. I want the St George effort to pass... just to give these clowns a giant FU.

But you St. George residents are going to need better leaders.

There’s politics on both sides of it. No question.

But our needs aren’t being adequately addressed proportional to what we’re putting into the pot. And there’s really no hope they will be by remaining unincorporated. It’s time for a change.

Been in it all his life. His father was Shelley Beychok an old behind closed doors Democratic operative and he was taught by James Carville. Jewish kid from Catholic High. He won a million dollars handicapping a horse race or series of races.

Like Broome? Lol
Yeah. Ok.

You likely can throw a rock anywhere in St.G and hit someone more competent.

What needs are not adequately being addressed? Seriously and let’s take public education out of the equation for now since that will be another issue at another time.

I have heard this but not actually seen what exactly is it that isn’t addressed. Is her attention to North Baton Rouge so distressing that it has caused this?

Let me put it differently. You can spend more of your actual tax dollars in your area what would you spend it on?

And let me be clear, I signed the petition because I do believe it deserves a vote and I do own properties in both areas so it will effect me in some shape or form and I’m certain that means more money out of my pocket-probably on both sides.

But other than the venom of a mayor and the need to not want North Baton Rouge to have more than they are putting in what else is there? She can be a one term mayor you know.
