You know what? You're right. The Alps do not exist in Germany.

I in fact never set foot on the German Alps. I was obviously lied to by the local Austrian insurrectionists, hell bent on maintaining the truth that the Alps do not exist in Germany. In any form.

By that line of thinking then none of Niagara Falls is in The US, Detroit and Buffalo are Canadian cities and Vancouver is an American city.

lol this started with my response to what does Switzerland have that Germany doesn't? and I said the alps.

Sure - if I wanted to go see the Rocky Mountains, I could go see them in New Mexico, but it'd be a hell of alot better to go see the Colorado Rockies.

Same for the alps. Sure, there are some places with "the alps" on the Southern border of Germany, but I'd rather go see them Switzerland/Austria.

I'm more interested in the scenery, namely the Swiss Alps. I'm not a huge fan of German food, and I'm not a beer drinker, and couldn't care less about visiting historical sites and monuments and that sort of stuff. I just want to chill and enjoy the scenery and relax. Zero interest in visiting France, either.

That’s… an interesting perspective

There’s also a resort for military in Bavaria called Edelweiss.

Due to SOFA, I think the son will have to make the reservations and do the check in. Military retirees can't stay there, nor can active military folks who are not stationed in Germany.

Found out today that my stepson (USAF) will be stationed in Ramstein, Germany. My wife is already talking about going to visit but tbh, Germany doesn't interest me much. Switzerland, on the other hand, is a place I'd like to visit. Anybody familiar with those areas or have any suggestions?

I was stationed at Ramstein, albeit from 1998-2000. Germany is beautiful. Switzerland isn't far and also beautiful. Paris is a 6 hour trip away. Ask whatever you want and I'll answer.

I spent three of the best days of my life in Munich one afternoon.

Seriously, the Viking Rhine River cruise from Amersterdam to Basil, Switzerland is a good trip. Unpack once, same room every night, different village / city / experience every day.

Yeah I'm a foodie, but not a drinker. Just plop me down next to a lake someplace with some picturesque mountains all around, and I'm good to go.

There's a lake behind this house, would that do?

Bavarian region of Germany is worth the trip. Switzerland is nice but way more expensive. Austria is very nice.

If you're into scenery go to the Palatinate/Pfalz forest. Great hiking and sight seeing in one of the largest contiguous forests in Europe. Extends all the way through France.
