The problem is he said it but in context to a discussion of people cherry picking biblical quotes. So if you ask AI if he said it, you get no context. AI will say it appears he said it.
I give credit to King apologizing but more so for adding the context. I don't like him. He is cranky in his old age but he apologized pretty quickly. Someone he trusts must have pointed out his error.

He wasn't saying Charlie did. Some girl tried to "gotcha" Charlie with a single verse from Leviticus (cherry picking). Charlie called her out and noted that a following verse talked about stoning homosexuals and basically asked should we do that too, since you're cherry picking?
Stephen King is repugnant but at least when he got the whole context, he recognized Charlie's point and apologized (likely in an attempt to avoid being sued).

I read his books as a teenager, but after revisiting one, I noticed how silly and myopic the writing was, and only a young mind with the ability to confabulate corrections could enjoy it.
