Steamboats on the Mississippi

Been reading about steamboats on the Mississippi in Wicked River. Here are some pictures of how things appeared on the river in their heyday before the advent of railroads.

I actually think about this from time to time when I am in the port towns like Natchez, Vicksburg, and Greenville Those must have been some rough places!

Boilers weren't made to handle the muddy water and all the trash in it. Caused overheating.

This. They even used to run from Bayou Courtableu all the way to New Orleans.
