What are they going to replace it with? Both Republican and Democrat administrations have had BIG issues with spending. They have to replace it with something.

They would have no choice but to eliminate the Homestead Exemption and dramatically increase all property taxes (double, maybe triple).

Isn't Mississippi trying to eliminate their income tax? I can see a mass exodus (it's already happening) from the Nola area to the coast if/when they do this

He said that other Southern states like Texas, Tennessee and Florida have already done this. These places are attracting businesses and people leaving high-tax states like California and New York. He believes Louisiana isn’t seeing the same growth because it still has a personal income tax.

Without fixing the deplorable infrastructure and the horrific public schools, good luck attracting a big influx of out of state people.

Stupid idea. Without tax, how will the state pay for years long studies on possibly building roads

One thing it’s not spending enough on is highways. They are deplorable and littered with garbage and tire carcasses.

Travel the country, and when you get back you will curse the shittiness of our roads.

If they get rid of it they will just have to raise something else to make up for it

Yeah that's why

Taxes are going to be paid regardless. Whether it's on income or property taxes they still get paid

You have to replace it with a tax that taxes the people who aren’t paying income tax. You take the masses of welfare, stay-at-homes that live off of government handouts, they aren’t paying income tax already. Tax something that they are buying.

I’ve long thought that all we need to do is to properly address property tax assessments. I know plenty of people still paying property taxes on a 30 year old house at 50k value that is probably worth 250 at this point. If all property was accurately assessed, the rates could go down and the actual income go way up.

You have the Gilligan’s Island view of taxation.

Taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilized society. Fleming is an idiot for comparing Louisiana to Texas and Florida for sure, and to a lesser extent Tennessee. Businesses arent simply going to those states for tax purposes, but instead for quality of life including education.

Your government doesnt make your society civil, slick. Volunteerism and cooperation are the cornerstones of a civil society, not authoritarianism.

Private schools do exist.

I agree with this but Texans get smoked on property taxes. Back of the napkin math says it’s about a wash for me
in terms of total state and local taxes, sure I can see that; in terms of schools and infrastructure; not even close . You get “more for your money” in Texas.

Move out of that cesspool and you won’t have that issue. Idk why people are hellbent on trying to save BR. It’s lost to the animals, the system won’t deal with them. So why not move where your money doesn’t go to undesirables who have no skin in the game
