If they don't get rid of the curve at the 110-10 merge, they are wasting their time. It doesnt matter if you have 100 lanes, coming down off that bridge then being forced into an 80degree turn is going to slow everyone and everything down.

It's not the degrees of turn it's the forced into one lane that's the problem.

Its the volume of traffic that is the problem.

There really needs to be a by-pass

Yes that is a huge part of the problem, but brake lights from people slowing down to make the turn is what starts the chain reaction up the bridge. The lane ending doesn't help the matter.

I guess the state ran out of other bullshite to spend money on finally.

It's going to be a nasty few years but it will be worth it if they do it correctly.

This is LA. It’ll be late, over budget, and probably make traffic worse

Does this mean they've given up on any BETTER solution to the problem (i.e., a loop or a bypass)?

No, Baton Rouge's need for a new bridge or loop doesn't change the fact that I-10 needed to be widened 25 years ago.

This would have to happen regardless.

I just don’t understand the thinking. Spend a half billion to put a band aid. Just get the money and build a loop

So it’s taken over a decade to deal with the politics of simply adding a lane and it looks like we finally have a project, but you think it would be a good use of time to attempt to try and expropriate 13 city blocks of private property in a low income area in order to improve the curve off the bridge from 80 degrees to 60 degrees?

The alignment of the interstate is what it is. Adding a lane adds capacity. Improving the curve radius doesn’t.

Then why don’t you have university of Houston droppings? Seems you’ve made a living out of something in this town.

Just the bridge portion of a loop would cost more than this fix... but you're right it's just a band aid.

Still, if they can somehow take all three lanes from I-10 over the bridge, combine with the two lanes of I-110 coming south, and keep it at 5 lanes until the 10/12 split, that would without a doubt help things.

I’ll look at this as glass half full. It’s not a study. It’s announced expansion for two lanes instead of one.

One small step forward.

And it didn't take a gas tax.
