I wonder what the demographics are to these schools. There might be a correlation.

Not just mandeville but since the majority of jobs are now remote and work from home, it’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out nationwide.

Thank you!

Teachers don’t teach- everything is in the computer. Now if this is teacher choice or they are forced, I don’t know.

But the homework that comes home (7th grade), is hard, especially since they require you to work it out differently than I was taught.

oh yeah, i guess that sort of makes sense too. still seems like an overly fancy word for "minimum standard"

Group work is an issue IMO too. The amount of group work my child did in class last year was ridiculous. Kids need to be able to learn on their own & not depend on collaboration.

Group work is not a teacher-dictated thing a lot of times. It serves its purpose, but it shouldn’t be a primary focus, imo.

As a teacher, our observation scores are based on student-led learning, which in turn requires a ton of group work. We are basically forced to not allow children to sit and work independently a lot of the time.

It sucks, but just like any job, we have to listen to the higher ups who live in their fantasyland of what a classroom environment should be. In reality, learning/teaching doesn’t happen like they think it should. Y’all blame us for a lot of education issuers, but our hands are tied so much and it sucks.

I believe you & I don’t blame the teachers at all.

I just know my child and while she may like group work, I know it’s not beneficial for her as a learner. She excelled at homework & in-class assignments but when it came to tests, she lost all confidence in what she knew.

Same.
My son received Advanced in everything. Perfect score in Science and just missed perfect in ELA. Got a perfect in ELA last year.

What do the numbers mean?
Percentage of kids who passed? Average score? What?

It’s certainly one component, but don’t get me started on the NIET rubric. Another joke of a metric that’s making someone a ton of money.

True, for the most part. I know that in middle school, ELA and Eureka Math lessons are practically scripted. I don’t have any LEAP scores to look at because a new Social Studies test was piloted statewide this year.

routinely have to teach my daughter math stuff because she just doesnt learn it in school. i start asking questions, and find out that half the time they watched a video online or just got a handout and the teacher didnt even explain anything. and this is in St Tammany which is, ostensibly, the GOOD school district.

Agreed

Problem is there’s too many attending that have NO desire to learn, only to disrupt.

And administration is toothless to stop it
