An NFL player has a unique skill set and training. Their ability relative to a replacement is what drives their worth, in addition to the revenue generated by their company.
a midget that juggles chainsaws has a unique skill set and training too.
but they don't generate shite, so they don't make NFL money.

A school district's budget is dependent upon the tax base. School districts with higher tax bases tend to pay more money to their teachers. That has nothing to do with the employee's worth to the organization.
so the school that generates more money pays more money?
isn't that what I just said.
the amount of money coming in directly impacts the amount of money the employees are paid.
if a teacher leaves one school for another, that other school doesn't suddenly bring in more money.
if a QB leaves one team for another, it's entirely possible that team immediately sells more tickets and bring ins more money.

For CPAs
Starting B4 salary is in the 50k-60k range. It's not that great relative to the hours worked but things start to correct themselves at manager or if you jump to industry. By 7-8 years out of school they should clear 6 figures with their base if they are in public. In industry it depends on your title.

Didn't say it was illegal. It just removes the ability for the University to hire and fire at will.
Similar to how unions protect their members.

So, the price will go down when they get tenure? Sort of a tradeoff for job security.
Some faculty get salary support through grants. One could argue that a valuable professor should be able get more grant money, and thus be more self-sufficient. However, this takes money away from graduate students and research.
Many tenured faculty move out of the classroom and into more advisory roles. They often serve on committees both at the university and nationally. In doing so, they serve as ambassadors for the schools they work for.

Salaries will reflect the importance society puts on each profession. We are generally and currently bassackwards with regards to what we see as most important in life.
This is pretty much truth. As the husband of a public school teacher, they don't get paid near enough, and college professors are way overpaid for what they are required to do.

That's all great. I think they should get paid what they are worth. By what they can bring in, especially if their job turns to being a salesman.

Weird how they "don't get paid enough," yet they keep doing the job.

I'd be a Radiologist.
Make over $1,000,000 working longer hours but get more time with family

I don't know about "the market" but according to "the internet" the average salary for a barista is $15,000 and the average salary for an elementary teacher is $43,000.
