Actually, Louisiana was awarded $3.55 Billion in 2023. Not sure how much they actually spent, though. Mississippi was awarded nearly that much as well.

Just last week I learned that most of the languages (native) spoken in Africa do not have a word for “ maintenance” or for the concept “to maintain”.

Initially I was surprised… then it made sense.

Nigerian guy told me this.

What is the upload speed?

You can have decent internet at 100 mbps. Heck most WiFi connections are less than 100 mbps.

I know there faster WiFi speeds and different bands, I am just talking about your average user surfing TD, or watching a YouTube video on their phone.

Now the upload speed is what kills cellular and cable with speeds of only 10-25% of the download speed.

Most urban areas in Africa are dominated by mobile, which has Internet.

What are the internet speeds though?

If it's a 3G connection that's nothing like speeds here

ETA just checked and learned 2 interesting facts

quote:

Our analysis shows that smartphone users see a diverse mobile experience across Africa. Starting with average download speeds, South Africa sets the bar among compared African markets at 34.5Mbps — 50% faster than second placed Zimbabwe’s 22.9Mbps, followed by Morocco, Kenya, Tunisia and Madagascar — the only other markets to score above 20Mbps. The download speeds observed in South Africa are at least two times faster than in 20 out of 27 analyzed markets and 4.4 times faster than last placed Angola.

These speeds are nothing like what you can get in big metro areas here so I could see the Starlink offering much better bandwidth. Especially if there is a higher tier.

And apparently Texas cities dominate in the U.S. as far as mobile internet speed goes

quote:

In mobile, San Antonio checks in at No. 1 with a median download speed of more than 344 megabits per second; Austin is No. 3 with nearly 228 Mbps; No. 4 is Dallas, with about 217 Mbps; and Houston’s No. 5 with 204.51 Mbps. The lone non-Texas entry is Phoenix, with almost 228 Mbps. T-Mobile is the No. 1 mobile provider in terms of speed (and wins that honor nationally as well) in each of the Top 5 cities.

The problem with Africa is its full of Africans. If you ever go there you’ll be shocked at the tribalism

FIFY

Rational person . Kind of sucks my enemy is making $500 million when I’m only making 200 million but that’s more more than I’ve ever seen so I’ll work with it.

Tribal person. Yes, I’m making 500 million and yes you told me my enemies is only making 200 million but they actually have to die and I need to kill their entire family all the way to their 10th cousin.

I love my fiber Internet here, we get around 300 Mbps in our WiFi

… which is very fast for Wi-Fi, for those that don’t know

I prefer that my data be secure passing through an underground wire than flying around in space where anyone can get it.
