Again...your typical plastic straw is NOT recyclable. Plastic cups and the lids..are recyclable.

Thanks.

Btw I’m far from some crazy hippie by any means. But I don’t have an issue with a business taking steps to try to help the environment.

The issue is the overwhelming amounts of litter strewn across the country roads. I don't deserve to see redneck's garbage lying all along the country side, nor do you deserve it.
Will just changing from plastic to paper straws solve the world's litter problem? Not in of itself, but at least it's a step in the right direction and perhaps it will lead to more improvements. You know the baby steps cliche.

I don't see straws all over the place, though.

In my town the Chic fil A employees use their lunch break to clean up the adjacent disgusting StarBucks environs.

Go to a landfill. This is the bad number...182 Billion straws are used in the USA each year. One billion straws every two days. That's just the US. That's every year. They're not going to decompose.

What percentage of US landfill space do plastic straws occupy?

Just ask one of the homeless bums taking a bath in there to borrow their straw.

90% of Starbucks drinks are sold through the drive thru or carryout.

Guess where those cups end up?

A fricking trash can.

I appreciate their efforts but this will have no impact on the amount of trash that ends up in landfills.

So you think millions of rednecks are going to Starbucks for a frapucino and tossing their straws out of their car window on the drive home?

What planet do you people live on?

I’ve noticed where even private companies’ efforts to improve the environment, or rather anything seen as helping the environment, is seen as “un-American” and “liberal” by a wide swath of the country.

That’s how far we’ve fallen folks. Unbelievable.

That is great however having items not locally sourced that you must ship across the nation/world still causes insane levels of pollution so this sounds like a gimmick to feel good about how eco friendly you think you are.

For Starbucks I don't think it is either. Right now you can't recycle regular straws if you want to recycle. They are moving away from that to something you can recycle.

Starbucks knows their customers and is playing to them.

I don't really care about any of that. I'm just looking for someone to explain to me what this is actually accomplishing. All I've seen are silly platitudes and goofy hyperbole so far.
