I don’t really see a problem with it. Plastic trash in the ocean is pretty bad in shithole countries.

I understand it's protecting marine wild life, but after 5-6 sips through a paper straw, it gets soggy and collapses.

That's stupid of them. Plenty of better biodegradable options out there.

Starbucks to Ban Plastic Straws The perfect symbol for the continued Progressive Infantilization of America , a sippy cup for adults. Well done, Starbucks. Soon there will be mandatory doily- folding.

Travel cups already do this, better than sucking a freakin straw.

I'm glad that Starbucks saved all the oceans with their straw ban. Straws have been the root of all the world's problems for so long. Score one for the hippies.
Now the cups...

Yeah I never use a straw unless absolutely necessary. Back when I ate more fast food I would just throw the straw away every time.

I don't understand this mentality. If something doesn't solve everything in the world then it isn't worth doing at all?

Probably because you’re a fatty drinking some supersized, sugary drink that’s bad for you.

Smoothie King banned styrofoam cups in favor of plastic cups so it sounds like a zero sum game.

Sure it's Schultz's company and he can do whatever his liberal nutjob heart desires.

That being said, frick this overrated prog haven and green whackos in general.

Of course it's PR. They're a business. You probably aren't the target audience. Just because there's a PR element doesn't automatically make it a bad thing.

But read some of the responses in the thread. Certain kinds of baws are pretty emotional about a business they claim not to patronize changing their policy on fricking straws.

Again...your typical plastic straw is NOT recyclable. Plastic cups and the lids..are recyclable.

The issue is the overwhelming amounts of litter strewn across the country roads. I don't deserve to see redneck's garbage lying all along the country side, nor do you deserve it.
Will just changing from plastic to paper straws solve the world's litter problem? Not in of itself, but at least it's a step in the right direction and perhaps it will lead to more improvements. You know the baby steps cliche.
