re: St. Jude and why it is the best charity you can donate to

I agree with everyone that St Jude is a wonderful organization to donate your money to, and I do that myself.
I do also want to endorse donating your time to your local children's hospital if you are in a position to do so. Mine does a "Spooky Trail" every Halloween so that patients and their siblings can Trick or Treat together. Local businesses set up booths around the hospital and hand out little treats and toys. Some may just have a broken arm, some much worse, but you get to provide all of them with a little moment of normalcy at their most vulnerable. It is the most rewarding thing I've gotten to do from a volunteer standpoint and I was heartbroken that Covid prevented us from doing it last year.

Shriners Hospitals are a solid charity also.

St. Jude took phenomenal care of my sister when she got sick. She is healthy today because of them. I will donate to them for the rest of my life, and will forever be greatful to to amazing people there.

St Jude gets most of my charitable donations. I’ve know several families who have had children helped by St. Jude. Some survived and some didn’t. What those families didn’t have to worry about was the money and insurance crap at that awful time in their lives. Please consider giving since they provide such a wonderful service. Also, check to see I your company does matching donations to add to your donation.

St. Jude helped my wife’s family to the point that is almost inexplicable. While the battle was lost in the long run, her family still does as much as they can to raise money and keep in touch with the doctors/nurses. We’re there every year for the Marathon, and if there is something worth donating to, it’s this, those kids deserve everything.

82% sounds great . How does 82% compare to most charities?
Astronomically higher than most charities. Most of the big name charities spend most of their money per dollar on overhead/administrative or fundraising costs if they don’t do it in house. St Jude is truly the gold standard.

The health care workers that work there are the real hero's.
No, the kids that survive and live to help others are, they are just doing a job they get paid for, regardless of patient outcome.

And the ones that don’t are remembered by their doctors and nurses, who still check up with the families of the lost. Don’t downplay what those healthcare workers do, they fight against the odds everyday and don’t always win.

I really hope the 2 downvotes were errors. My wifes Goddaughter was a patient at St. Jude. They are the real deal and 100% one of the best uses of charity money

Lets keep from turning this thread negative. Take this as as weak bump so that maybe some more people might recognize what St. Jude does and give a little. What was supposed to be my bro in law went there when he was 13 and succumbed a few years later. In the mean time that hospital treated him like a saint and all at no cost. Great people and great treatment!! When you’re there it’s just all about the kids.

Just be careful with their experimental treatments. St Jude is always doing experimental treatments and you don’t know what they are giving. I’ve had referrals( kids) die of cardiac toxicity from their regimen, that are 98% cure rates everywhere else with conventional chemo, and I mean they died from the treatment, not the cancer. I still like St Jude, but after what I’ve seen, I’m very careful of the patients I refer. Still one of the best charities there is out there, but just know there’s always some gray area in everything, especially if it’s free.
After extensive research, we brought up multiple experimental treatments. Multiple doctors met with us and we went through them in detail and he correctly talked us out of doing the experimental treatments.
You are probably dealing with a doctor specific issue.
St. Jude is a God send for many families. Don't forget that the average income in this country is only 68k.

I donate monthly (not a lot...not virtue signalling here) because I agree. Also started donating to American Cancer Society after I saw how they helped my mom trough her treatments.
And because frick cancer.
And because frick cancer.

My niece is there now. She has five more weeks of chemo. It started two and a half years ago. Hopefully all clear scans at the end of April. Great place to donate.
