I know you'll all find this hard to believe but she's also the HOA president for Woodland Ridge.

I have had a TG account for several years but forgot the password because I never post. I went through trouble of creating a new one just to come here and correct you....she is NOT the president of Woodland Ridge HOA. We kicked her out in January because her views and actions do not reflect the majority of great folks in our neighborhood. She was only President for a short period of time because nobody else wanted to do it at the time....once her power trip started, she was ousted.

See? This dude was so offended by the fact that his HOA was being associated with this person that he made a whole new account just to come on and e-distance the HOA from her.

Not. Pleasant.

This woman doesn't know that most of the folks in EBR Parish buy water from either BRWW or Parish Water which are private companies.

EBR Parish is not in the water business. Now I believe Zachary is. They are also in the natural gas business while EBR Parish is not.

This lady doesn't know what she's talking about.

I wouldn't believe anything she says.

you can't form isd's in Louisiana without a city first.
Quick question would only the people in the area of St. George vote on it, or would it be parish wide?

There are two issues in the answer to this question. The first is establishing the boundaries of the ISD. That was voted on by the legislature and signed into law already. The second issue is to release the MFP funding for the ISD. That requires a 2/3 vote of the legislature and the Governor's signature to bring it to a state-wide election. The funding mechanism failed to pass in the legislature the last time around and the reason given was that it was unheard of that an unincorporated area having its own ISD, that it would be easier if the SG area was a city. That's where we are now. First we get the city, then we go back to the legislature to get the funding mechanism passed and put up for a vote of the people statewide.

In Houston you spend more on property tax than we do on private schools

Not here in Katy. I agree, if you don’t have kids then the school argument is negated. But I have three kids. My sister has three kids. She pays about $20k annually in tuition. I forget what my property tax was last year, but it was waaaay less than that. On a vastly bigger and newer house with smooth roads and responsive police and no crime.

But i digress.

Lots of things were unheard of before it was done. What a terrible answer.

So, essentially, our state government (which is seated in BR) inspired the city of St George.

I currently live in the St. George area and am prepared to send my kids to private school. However, if a good enough public school system could be instituted (see the Houston suburbs) I would gladly save $10k a year to send them there. That's not my only reason for wanting this to go through. For work for me and my wife, it didn't make financial sense to move another 20+ minutes away and still have to spend the same amount if not more on housing in addition to added traffic headache.

It won't happen over night but in time EBR could be turned around by a growing population in the South and SE. Better schools, homes closer to work and people developing all that undeveloped land.

More prople, more voters, and more influence. The population of BR proper is stagnant. Votes matter. Change could happen if things start soon.

You won't have to worry about overcrowding inside the city limits. There's plenty of room. Move there.

Lol

People are going to move where schools are good and there's prosperity and jobs. They always have.

It's been going on quietly now for 3 months, right under the opposition's nose. Like a sniper in place, by the time the report of the rifle is heard, it will be too late.

You should have said that instead of "these newly incorporated cities".

Then take them out.
The Catholic Church and Catholic parents disagree with you. There are other, private schools out there that would happily take you and your tuition money. Quit bitching about the Church and its goals and put your kids somewhere your "values" are reflected.

Simple.

good lord dude. chill out.
My kids go to a catholic school b/c that's where i want them to go. the values that specific school has in regards to education and the general environment of the school far outweigh my opinions of what i think of the catholic church, and my wife does not share my opinions, and i will not do anything to sway my children from not being catholic until i think they are old enough to have a thoughtful discussion about it and can draw their own conclusions from it, which will not be anytime soon.

We have been working really hard to bring the neighborhood back from the flood. Please attend the annual meeting tonight if you can and invite all your neighbors. We need all the support we can get!
