Don’t have too much of opinion on if it’s good or bad. But I assume this means a lot less money for the city of Baton Rouge. If that’s the case then would this not lead to the surrounding areas decline be that much faster? In turn right next door will be a war zone?
Seems like the idea of St George is understandable and that the vote will pass. But in the long run the existence of St George will be the death nail for Baton Rouge.

It's weird seeing those gaps but it looks like those are areas that are already incorporated into Baton Rouge. I guess St. George isn't getting the Mall, Casino, or Siegan Marketplace.

The only thing more depressing than having to spend the rest of your life in Baton Rouge is realizing you’ve been split off into St. George.

In the past it was 25 minutes from Denham Springs to downtown. Now it's an hour

Ignorant. If people being afraid of "culcha" was the motivation, they would form their own city elsewhere. Be thankful there is a segment of EBRP residents that want to control their destiny and make a large part of EBRP viable long term. Maybe a few less people will flee the parish. "Culcha" doesn't change because a city is formed.

The fact is SG is not a quick fix. It will take over a decade to turn this parish around.
First the city. It’s got to be efficient, and responsive; not fat and not responsive.
Second the ISD. It needs to prove it can compete and do as well as the private schools and schools to our south and east in neighboring parishes.
If that is accomplished SG and SG ISD along with sister districts in Zachary and Central can attract more young families in EBR, attract more transient families and grow the population.
BR is stagnant, a vibrant SG, Zachary and Central can tip the vote towards conservatism. A conservative EBR can offset the tax and spend crowd who brought us Broome, high taxes and an incompetent city hall.
That’s my vision, but it’s a marathon and not a sprint and as any objective person can see; city hall is fighting tooth and nail to keep the status quo.
I had one son move out of EBR to Ascension because of school, and I know he is just one of hundreds that has done this. My other child fights to stay here and pays private tuition. They shouldn’t have to do that, but they love their SG neighborhood.
My grand kids probably will not benefit from this change directly, but in the long term they will.

We live in the city limits by one street but I'm rooting for SG. I grew up in Central and think them splitting off from BR schools has been a net positive.
We wouldn't likely change my daughter's school at this point anyway. She only has 5 years left.

You probably wouldn’t, and many others like you wouldn’t, but that’s why I say it’s a long process. You aren’t going to erase Forty years of decay in five years.
To arrest the expansion of the progressives it starts at the grassroots level. It’s about schools and local services.
Luckily our country is founded on a capitalist system. SG needs to compete with BR, Ascension and Livingston. To work it needs to have better schools, better services, and a better quality of life. If it does it will boom. I think it can.
