. I get you may think I’m stupid, fine. I want to know how 17,000 people came to the conclusion that they can provide a better life for the area. That’s all. Please inform me on what is going to be so great to live in StG?

Well, there was a vote. And those 17,000 people outnumbered the opposition.

So they cannot challenge the results of the election because they didn't like the results.
If they could, SG could challenge the results of the mayor's election.
And anyone could challenge the results of any election

This is ignorance. The same statutes that outline how an unincorporated area can incorporate also outline how those impacted by the incorporation can contest it. Read the laws.

quote:

Legal action contesting an incorporation A. Any of the following persons or governmental entities may file a petition contesting the incorporation: (1) Any elector residing in the area proposed for incorporation. (2) Any person owning land in such area. (3) Any municipality which might be adversely affected or an elected official of the governing authority of such a municipality.

All true.

Item 3, is questionable in my mind, but the judge let it go.

Broome is suing without C-P Council approval as is Cole. I'm no legal scholar, but you'd hope our C-P plan of government would prohibit the mayor or a council person from suing without full council approval. But that's me.

This isn't gonna end well for STG. But, it won't have a positive impact on BR. People are sick of BR (and LA in general). When they shut down STG people are gonna flee BR even more than they already are. People will be readily accepting transfers or new job offers out of state.

Yes I am an idiot. I felt so stupid trying to engage in a political topic on TD. You win, you are right and I’m wrong. Now carry on without me.

The opposite will happen. This will happen and will force BR to adapt and change this bloated government wasteful spending. Or they'll do what they do best with JBE, raise the taxes once again.

I thought she was suing as a private citizen, which made me wonder why in the living frick her attorney was present at the meetings after the election that kept ending in standstills because her seaward of an attorney kept gumming up the works on purpose.

That doesn't exist. Blacks, hispanics, ect can't be racist. The only racist humans to walk the face of the earth are white (and 75% male)

It seems she is working both sides of the street.

Private citizen- she doesn't go to the C-P Council, she get private help to pay her legal bills, and there is no public review.

Public official- when she's before the judge and when she's negotiating with the SG organizers where she brings her private attorney who takes over the meeting and gums it up.

I think he's being sarcastic, but the idea that minorities can't be racist is a revered part of the leftists' creed.

I figured he was... I hoped he was being sarcastic and my meter was broken, put it that way.

And you’re right about that. I find that those people preach equality but want dominance and are some of the more selfish and racist people out there.

False. Taxing shenanigans had sales taxes collected in the unincorporated areas flowing into the City’s General Fund paying for city services (police and fire) which the unincorporated areas weren’t receiving. How this was ever legal is beyond me, but once St. George happens, those dollars are diverted from the City of Baton Rouge’s General Fund to the City of St. George’s General Fund. This will strain the City’s ability to fund BRPD and BRFD specifically.

BR will just increase the # of inspection sticker and seat belt check points around LSU.

Since you brought up BRPD, Mayor Broome commissioned a study to streamline C-P government and to save money. The first report came back from the consultants and they said that BRPD could save 10 million dollars a year if they followed their suggestions.

Broome's consultant reports

Of course the Police chief says that's way too high, he can't do it all, and it will take time; however, they have already found a way to cover some of the money they'd lose with SG.

BTW, doing more inspection sticker stops was not in the report.

If every parish develops a general slush fund, and uses it for the primary city (seat)....
wouldn't that prevent any new city from ever forming under the SWB complaint?

Like a Robin Hood strategy?

What percentage of BR’s general budget is due to bloat? Can you give some specific examples and dollar figures?

There is $8MM going to the Council On Aging each year that is an example of bloat, both monetarily and in human form.

Whether that's in the general budget or not, I don't know. But it's definitely the result of corruption on the part of city officials and ineptitude of BR citizens.

I guess I am not sure why anyone would object to self governance. If the people in St. George feel they are not being represented by the larger entity of BR, they have every right to self incorporate.

What this boils down to is that a bunch of people think some other people owe them something and are using the BR gov't to take money from one group and give it to another. The only thing St. George represents is the cash cow stopping the milk production and those in control of BR want the money.

Did I miss something?
