Understand, that for black people. There was no independence on July 4, 1776. We were still enslaved.
I have no problem celebrating the 4th. But I also understand that at the time, I wouldn't have been doing any celebrating.

African tribes targeted Africans who were NOT woke and forced them onto slave ships.

1775 The slave population in the colonies is nearly 500,000. In Virginia, the ratio of free colonists to slaves is nearly 1:1. In South Carolina it is approximately 1:2. 1775 Georgia takes action against slave importation.

This isn’t a mindset of learning from the past. You are drowning yourself with it.
How does that view of the USA benefit you in any way?
ISO, all you are doing is holding yourself down by continuing to focus on ancestral problems.
You will very likely disagree, but nothing in 1776 involving slavery affects you now. The positives gained from the American Revolution sure gives you a boost though.
How is it that people can’t focus on the positives?

And my family was still back in Germany mostly and would remain so for another 100 years.
And yet, as an American born in 1970 and living in 2018, I can look back at how monumental July 4, 1776 was to my ultimate future...and yours.
Someone doesn't want to celebrate it, fine...same goes for any holiday. Talking shite about it as if to do otherwise makes one an Uncle Tom is simply idiotic.

regardless of the validity of the reason for having issues with the history of the country and the wrongs that were done if i could not find a way to celebrate what is right about it i truly believe i would leave, go somewhere you could be proud.

I love being an American. Would not care to live anywhere else. But I would argue my ancestors did not become true Americans until they were freed from slavery.
Look, I have no problem at all with the 4th. I enjoy the time. Just don't be surprised when some people don't have the same excitement for the holiday.
