In a previous thread, some billionaire paid $200 million for a Jackson Pollock painting, named Number 17A.

Personally, I think his art is shite. I criticized his work in the thread and two "art lovers" berated me for not appreciating his art. I think they're pretentious assholes and they think I'm a neanderthal.

So, what do you think about Pollock's paintings? Art, or paint splatters?

He did a lot more than splatters. The exhibition of his work at MOMA was pretty fascinating.

I'm not a fan, and I'm not a fan of most modern art. I find the CIA support of him and other modern artists to be interesting as well.

There's something about his art. It's not just paint spatters, there's something going on. That's like saying that Jimi Hendrix getting feedback out of his guitar is nothing but noise -- it's being used for a purpose.

I really like it. Is it a simplistic idea? Of course. I don't think it makes it any less "artworthy." I don't have 200 million dollars (yet) so i can't tell you what I would pay for it.

I don't think it looks a lot different than the painting done by the monkey in that thread.

It's shite. Even the name is too much. Trying too hard to be weird and unique. It's the same with people who are deeply within the "fine dining" world. Everything has unique names, bizarre ingredients, small portions, always fuchsia etc.

Give me Bob Ross.

I think people believe they have elite intelligence, therefore, they can see genius where less fortunates cannot - it's simply narcissism manifested via art. However, the reality is that Jackson was a drunkard who gave up on traditional art because he wasn't being noticed for his talent; thus, he expressed his anger and disappointment with randomness and was noted for being a pioneer...but, his acclaim comes from beginning a new trend, not on his artistic prowess.

Autumn Rhythm: No. 30

One: No 31

What's the difference between these two? More splatter?

They're very different. Especially when you see them in person. They're very big paintings. Seeing basically a thumbnail of it on a screen doesn't do it any justice.

Autumn splatter No. 31 would make for a good duck blind cover.

Never heard of him until I saw Guardians of the Galaxy. And then there was this in Ex Machina. I think it's ridiculous that they sell for so much. Maybe I am a Neanderthal, I don't care.

actually, you were simply being made fun of for calling people who like that kind of art pretentious assholes while ironically acting just like a pretentious a-hole.

I like it but I didn't until I learned more about both him and his work. Seen on display in a museum they are much more impressive than just a picture in a book.
