Now, it's splatter, then it was revolutionary. Hence the price tag...

I agree. I also think you're a stupid fricking moron if you go to Hawaii when Destin is right here, or Colorado when you got the smokies.

So, what do you think about Pollock's paintings? Art, or paint splatters?

I always wondered how he knew when he was finished.

When he ran out of paint or was too drunk to stand up.

Not legit, but nice try.

Very legit. Your indignation in these two threads is over the top.

I think there is a lot more to art than paint and canvas. Pollack is chaos much like Rothko is order.

I'm not a wine sipping art snob, I'm a retired military schoolteacher.

I also believe that since the beginning of the 20th century, an interesting artist goes hand in hand with great art.

So no, it's not just splatters IMO. But I don't think that makes you a cement head.

Yeah Rog, you don't strike me as the pretentious art snob type.

You don't find it really dumb to call someone pretentious for simply liking something?

You clearly had an opinion of Roger before that post. If he had said he liked Pollock paintings, your opinion of him would suddenly change? Explain that logic.

I like some art, even some abstract art but it's supposed to make you feel something. Just doesn't connect with me. I'm definitely not a museum regular though.

Not really.

Lots of people claim to like things they really don't just to appear cool or intelligent. I don't mince my words and call it like I see it.

I don't know if my opinion of Rog would change, but I would've been surprised if he were a fan.

Basically, if someone looks at a Pollock or Rothko painting and says it means this or that to them and evokes emotions, I'm gonna consider them to be full of shite.

Sorry.

So people aren't full of shite if they say they like art that you also like, but they are full of shite if they like something you don't?

I feel like you have to try to be this dumb. Dear Lord.

Who have I tried to impress with my knowledge of art? Have I bragged about having talent, culture or importance?

Can't say the same for you Frankie.

That's not what I'm saying at all.

I'm saying I dislike art that art snobs and critics claim is great art, and I look at it and see crap. But other people buy into the bullshite so they feel part of the cool or intelligent crowd.

It's basically like the Kanye West Syndrome with white people. His music is absolute garbage, yet they claim to like it to seem cool to blacks.

I take it you're a big Kanye fan?

For about the tenth time today, modern art is not about a quick "look". You have to educate yourself before judging.

They named a movement based on its followers hating things that many people like because they felt it made them seem cool.

You basing your likes and dislikes purely on the opinion of others is the other side of the same coin you call pretentious. You're placing the added importance on your own opinion.
