For about the tenth time today, modern art is not about a quick "look". You have to educate yourself before judging.
What education do I need to judge this?

You prove my point about you being a pretentious snob with every post of yours.

What the hell are you talking about? When did I say I like or dislike things only because others do? I said the opposite.

I don't succumb to peer pressure. Never have, never will. If I like something, I say so. Same if I dislike it, regardless of who else does.

I could sit and look at a Rothko for hours.......well......for several minutes.

By asking you to educate yourself? I guess so.

Perhaps other people are like that too, just with different opinions from your own.

I might have misunderstood your fricky sentence about hating art that so many other people like but you don't. But you certainly let a concensus opinion affect how you view every person who has that opinion. If you can't see how pretentious that is, I don't know what to tell you.

Yes, telling people "they don't understand modern art because they're not educated in art" is very pretentious and ridiculous.

That's like saying that I don't recognize a beautiful building because I haven't studied architecture.

I would say I'm more narrow minded, not pretentious.

Music is similar. I can see the appreciation of many different types of music, although I may not listen to alot of it.

Like jazz. Some is okay, but alot of jazz is just terrible. It has no rhythm or flow. It's like 5 different musicians playing a different song.

How very pretentious of you. Thanks.

My older sister has a Masters in Fine Arts. Frida Kahlo is one of her favorites. I'm gonna have to ask her what she thinks about Pollock and Rothko. I value her opinion.

Do you have an art degree?

Design degree. Pollock is not one of my favorites but I admire your ability to argue your dislike for .....what.....9 hours now? Ha-ha....let's debate Donald Judd next week.

I'm tenacious.

Sorry about the insults, I can get a little fired up.

It's not so much my dislike of modern abstract art as it is the art world's ridiculous defense of it when it's criticized. It's always pretty much the standard answers you gave. "You don't understand it, you need to educate yourself, blah blah blah."

I'm just looking for a little honesty in this world, that's all. Just tell it like it is.

When my wife asks me what I think about an outfit she tries on, she knows she'll get the truth, good or bad.

Good night bro.

Its all about the name --not his work. If you say you have a piece of his art, ppl think you have money and are in a different class. Lets be real here. The art is crap.

That's what I've been saying all day.

Look at this piece of shite. Sold for $72.84 mil in '07. Looks like my bedroom wall when the wife was trying out paint swatches.

I love retards like you. So self important that you never step back and think a little bit deeper. Why was Pollock important?

You only see "splatter" (as if that's all it was), or a soup can, and you dismiss it because it doesn't fit I to your neat, tidy little box as to what you think art needs to be.

No context, no understanding of the place in history, no understanding of the evolution of art and concepts, no understanding of the method or thought process.

I see a Rothko and admit I don't fully get it, but I also understand that it's important for a reason.

Me, self important? WTF are you talking about a-hole?

But please, keep acting as if the modern abstract artists have done so much to improve art.

Honest people see it for what it is. Shitty pretentious art by talentless artists for pretentious fans and critics.

Pollock's art is ok but my favorite painting has to be

"Red Square (Visual Realism of a Peasant Woman in Two Dimensions)"
by artist (author?) Kazimir Malevich

But no I'm actually not a fan..
