not dumbest, but one i'll never forget.

High School football, freshman team.

playing against a small catholic school

"guys, i don't think y'all truly understand what y'all are up against today."
*no real reaction from the team.*

"do y'all realize that every one of those layers over there looks down on every one of y'all, mocks y'all, and has no respect for any of you?"
*slightly more of a reaction from team, but still not much.*

"i don't think y'all get it. Those kids will all grow up to be doctors, lawyers, and business men, while none of y'all will ever be more than oilfield trash like y'all dads"
*now he has our attention and team starts grumbling a bit*

"y'all still don't understand. a few years from now while you greasy slackers are sweating your asses off on some rig in the gulf, those assholes are gonna be at your house fricking your wife and drinking your beer"

we kicked the living shite out of them that night. something like 42-7.

the dumbest shite i ever heard was from my cheese dick JV coach. He thought he was Lou Holtz giving pep talks

He wheeled a tv into the locker room and played this scene from Gladiator

then once it's once it over screams "NO MATTER WHAT WE STICK TOGEATHER AND NOTHING CAN STOP US"

half the team started laughing

The Green Wave have had some good teams.

I know this sounds crazy that we looked up to Gordo, but my high school has had produced SEC players in its history. (One at Bama, one at Auburn. Coincidentally, both were all-SEC and played in the NFL). Gordo is putting 2-3 in the SEC every year and another 3-4 at smaller colleges. When I was looking for that picture, the Google Image Search kept bringing up signing day parties.

Everyone we played was pretty much just like us, except for Gordo. That school and town didn't give a damn about anything except for winning football games. It was as poor and trashy as we were, but their booster club would raise thousands to make that team look good. We'd be lucky if we could buy new cleats for the kids that couldn't afford them.

Technically he never coached me, but he was the baseball coach and he taught high school geography. He started off class one day with this brilliant gem.

"This unit we're going to be studying the country of Africa."
".....Coach, Africa is a continent."
"Well you're right in saying that, but like Australia, it's also a country."

When we continued to argue with him about that, he used South Africa as the smoking gun that it was a state, since no one would name their own country South Africa.

My baseball coach when we played Barbe in the semifinals.

Told us something along the lines of none of us were ever going to be as good as their stud player (younger cechinni brother, ended up going ~10th overall in the draft) but we could sure take satisfaction in kicking their arse...

Most ironic part is he is still in AA and Nola is starting in the league now. Shows how much he knew

One guy on the other team is killing us on both sides of the ball. Coach says " he isn't fast or strong" yeah coach he is that's why he is kicking our butts.

Never really anything truly dumb that i can recall. Though I did have a coach in HS that would tell us to run 5 laps by holding his hand up. Problem was he was missing a half a finger..We'd stop at 4 1/2 a lot.

Your coach wasn't wrong...

PS- put a few Blue Moons in the fridge before your next hitch... I'm getting tired of that Busch Light crap you keep buying.

7th grade basketball coach had an idea to run plays by city/state names.

He asks if we all understand to which a teammate says, 'What if you say New York?'

It only went downhill from there.

Coincidentally enough, I read a few months back that this same 'coach'/teacher was arrested for illegally pulling people over while he volunteered or some shite in a 'non-technical' cop capacity. I wasn't surprised.

Down by a lot

Basketball coach: "y'all are a bunch of cock-suckers."

Looks at his son. "Jesus Christ my son is a cock sucker."

When I was in 6th grade our coach tried to hype us up before a rivalry game by saying the opposing team called us "a bunch of pussies". We were pretty amped up before the game but looking back now I find his comments insensitive, sexist, demeaning, and offensive. Not only were his comments derogatory towards women, but they were derogatory towards trans persyns.

I've heard a lot of dumb things come out of coaches mouths, this wasn't said by a coach but was pretty funny at the time, junior year, first round of the hs football playoffs we were getting handled by the eventual state champions, we were down by a few touchdowns and received the kickoff and ended up with the ball inside our own five yd. line, the head coach screams to the starting qb, "you sit your arse down," and to the second string qb, "get in there and put some points on the board," first play he gets safetied, hc is about to have an aneurysm, veins on his neck popping out, yelling at the qb at the top of his lungs all the way to the side line, qb doesn't even look at him, he gets over to where a group of us were standing and says, to no one in particular, "don't know what he's pissed about, he told me to get in there and put some points on the board"
