BATON ROUGE - A video of an encounter between BRPD officers and some juveniles being shared online has caught the attention of Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. The video appears to show a Baton Rouge Police Officer choking a teenager on a road. Broome posted on Twitter Sunday saying that BRPD Chief Murphy Paul is aware of the video and that the incident is being reviewed. You can read Mayor Broome's full statement below:

Weird how she can’t have an immediate press release like this during one of the weekly murders.

Watched the video. I find it concerning that people resist arrest and expect it to end any way other than badly for them.

As usual, a tremendous amount of words used to say to little.

Best policing tactics ie leaving my voters’ sons and grandsons alone to commit crime and harass tax payers.

I didn’t see any choking. Looked like he was restraining the youth with a head and arm lock after the youth resisted arrest.

What’s the problem with it?

When criminals start getting shot by innocent people who are protecting themselves, these government loons will use that to push gun control. I'm sure racism will get tied to it somehow.

That’s not a choke.

Why do people immediately call a hold, a choke?

A choke involves cutting off the blood to the brain by affecting the carotid artery in the neck. The other way is a wind choke where you cause the inability to get air.

The placement of the arms is critical in performing either of these and from the angle the officer is at, it is impossible to choke anyone.

He could work his shoulder in and also use the suspects collar to help but being upright like he is makes the choke impossible

Imagine being a BR LEO and dealing with that sub human trash.

SWB needs to worry more about the killings that took place over the weekend instead of stirring the pot with this bullshite.

Weird because I didn't see anyone being choked.

Also weird was seeing non-compliance and instigation from the suspects/subjects.

Not a choke hold and not shocked at all about the instigators on the video. One thing is for sure, we will spend hundreds of police force man hours on this “police incident”, while the crimes/murders continue a block away from this recording.

Anyone that wants to be a cop is insane. I feel sorry for their families not them.

Right? If only the administration put this much effort into solving homicides at the hands of the citizens of the city-parish as it does investigating its own officers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe there are still more investigators in internal affairs than there are for homicide at BRPD.

The Baton Rouge Police Department has done more reform, implemented new policies, revised use of force mandates, and subjected their Officers to more training than any other agency in this country.

It's time for the other side to reform.

Every one of these viral videos involving Officers and a suspect have one thing in common: Resisting an arrest.

Resisting an Officer needs to be legislated with a mandatory 6 months jail time without the benefit of probation, parole, or good time.

The courts are always at the disposal of the accused. They are presumed innocent. Stop fighting the police.

The other side tends to reform after police action.

They try to take a shot at the cops, get killed, and get embalmed then reform into component parts.
