1. Texas....luckily I was born in this great Republic
2. Texas
3. Colorado
4. Wyoming
5. Louisiana (After being gone for almost a decade...I don't know how anyone without money lives here....great if you make 300K-400K to avoid the riff raff....lousy less than 100K)

California would be tempting - San Diego, Monterrey, San Franci$co.
If the New Orleans of my youth were not long gone, I'd more strongly feel the pull back to the place I was born and fell in love with, my Louisiana.
I'd take a condo somewhere in historic New England - Boston, for instance.
A mountain chalet or cabin in Colorado would be nice.
A coastal home in Washington or Oregon.

Southeast Alaska. It's pretty damn expensive though.

Idaho

Nowhere else.

I think North Carolina is a legit answer for most people after they get out of their top 2 or 3 choices. There is a big drop off after that.

If I have serious $$$ I wouldn't stay in one place. I'd go with seasons, fishing runs, and hunting seasons.

In no order.

Oregon
Alaska
Hawaii
Florida
Idaho

The others I can understand...but why North Dakota, friend?

Trust me, it sucks. It's horrid. Flat and boring and flavor has fled the land.
