Hawaii
California
If I could convince my wife to come with me and money was no object, I'd live on the beach in San Diego or Santa Barbara.
Those are the main two. After that, are places where I'd only want to live part of the year:
New York City
Chicago
Nashville
Austin
Miami

Every state has good locations but:
1. Florida. It's where I live now. By choice. And it's my 10th state. Money isn't a factor. I'm not doing the Florida thing like most do it, there are some great spots that fly under the radar and are still the old Florida.
2. Utah
3. Arizona
4. Washington
5. Alaska - this is #1 for half the year. Easily.

I like Florida a lot - but I live here already.
California would be tempting - San Diego, Monterrey, San Franci$co.
If the New Orleans of my youth were not long gone, I'd more strongly feel the pull back to the place I was born and fell in love with, my Louisiana.
I'd take a condo somewhere in historic New England - Boston, for instance.
A mountain chalet or cabin in Colorado would be nice.
A coastal home in Washington or Oregon.

I''m 35 and was born and raised in Texas and have probably lived in the best or 2nd best state in the west and the east and would take Texas every time. I currently live in LA and it doesn't hold a candle to Arizona, North Carolina and Texas. Not to mention my whole live I wanted to live in Louisiana because my Dad was born and raised here and I spent my summers here as a kid. I don't know what the frick I was thinking wanting to live here after being here for 5 years

I agree with this, lots of great places in California and lots of really crappy ones too. But if money is really no object then California probably needs to be in my top 5 just for Monterrey Bay.

California
New York (but only NYC specifically)
Colorado
That's my top three and it's not really worth listing 4 and 5 because they are a distant 4 and 5.
