From Nancy Landry's Twitter

quote:

Special session update: the black caucus has issued an ultimatum to increase income tax by compressing tax brackets or they won’t vote for any bill. In other words, they are blowing everything up. #lalege

Notes on the bill

As of now, the state income tax bracket is:

2% - First $12,500
4% - Next $37,500 (up to $50,000)
6% - Earnings beyond $50,000

The proposed tax bracket would look like:

2% - First $12,500
4% - Next $12,500 (up to $25,000)
6% - Earnings beyond $25,000

Bracket ranges are doubled for joint filers.

ETA: Please take five minutes to read about tax brackets before commenting something stupid. This affects EVERYONE earning more than $25,000 a year.

I thought we were trying to get rid of state income tax like Texas and Florida.

Democrats love them some taxes. A flat tax or fair tax is all I support

The Black Caucus has discovered how to increase tax revenues by hundreds, if not a couple thousand, dollars.

I’d actually be fine if they widened those parameters and added an 8% at some very high rate like over $250k for single and $500k for couples, although I’d be a bigger fan of no income tax at all.

This just goes to show they don’t actually care about he little guy and will only push more people into state and federal government dependence.

So... they essentially want to raise taxes on people making between $25K and $50K?

Okay?
I know math can be hard. Try again.

You’d be impacted at the lower levels.
