Spanking is absolutely necessary. My kids know if they disrespect an adult, not do simple things as they are told they get their arse tore up. I have pretty good kids because they know they will get a spanking if they do wrong whatever the case may be. I notice in public, at ball games, school functions that my kids definitely stand out as well mannered and behaved kids. This is because i teach them accountability at a young age in hopes of them becoming a better person than me. You enable your child by being their friend above being their parent. you do them a disservice by not spanking them.

Ever kid is different and I personally don't believe in spanking. A little swarm here or there maybe, but a full on belt whipping isn't in my parenting plan.
My child will not be an a-hole either.

Not very often. He started hitting kids until we stopped

have watched a lot of kids grow up through the years and whether they were spanked or not doesn't seem to affect how they turn out in life.
You don’t think physically hitting a child negatively effects their psyche?

Yep, I can’t count on one hand the amount of times I was physically reprimanded, I guess some parents are better at instilling respect in their children than others.

If my mom and dad never slapped me and my brothers or never threatened to slap us every once in a while, I guarantee you they would have had more problems because we weren't stopping certain things unless they stepped in.

Never spank. There are better ways to guide behavior which are not psychologically damaging to the child. Spanking is a trashy and lazy way to discipline.

It’s all a balance. Which means hell fricking yes it’s necessary at some point.
Anyone who disagrees: congrats on being a grandparent at 35 years old and for your kids’s STD’s, substance abuse addictions, and lack of life prospects.

I believe in spanking, but that does not need to be the only form of punishment. I see spankings as more of a last resort for when kids are deliberately refusing to listen and purposely trying their parents.

I'll put it this way, I see my kids and how they behave, and I see ppl who refuse to spank their kids and their behavior... I'll take my method/results over theirs.

Spanking works for my oldest, although I save it for extreme cases (lying, obsessive sass talk, etc.). My youngest responds better to stern fussing and threatening no dessert.

I think it really depends on the child as well as the disposition of the parents. In this thread, I can only comment in general and in general, I don't see a trend one way or another.

Spanking a kid--where do you stand?
Worked well for me.

Every child is different, but you sound like someone with all the answers. You could say child psychology is more on the lazy side of discipline. A spanking shows that you want to end the behavior right then and there and you have to physically get up and do something in order to try and end it right then and there (whether the parent succeeds or not).
