I never spank. Studies demonstrate that corporal punishment is not an effective way to instill discipline and actually promotes insubordination and violence. That said, I'm not going to impose my views on other parents or summon the police for mild spanking.

Never got spanked. I turned out OK. Never spanked either of my kids. They both turned out fine. What message does hitting a kid send? That it's OK to hit someone when they don't act the way you think they should? Just doesn't seem like the best for of discipline.

My mom was a fan of slapping my face. I’m sure I deserved it.

Til this day I would take a punch in the gut than a slap in the face because my mom use to slap the shite out of me and I hated it.

I had a problem with wanting to get the last word in and going out of my way to make my point and I would forget about the slap that was coming for a few seconds.. And WAP!

It was not that type of mom. I was not involved in the argument.

I agree though!

This thread reminded me of a Bill O'Reilly show the day of the Columbine shooting. He had a female Psychologist on the show to give advise on rearing children to avoid violent behavior. She gave her spiel of BS, then started talking about her family. She blamed the police for her sons bad behavior. She had called the police to come out and protect her husband from his sixteen year old step son, and they had refused. She had undisciplined children but had a national forum to tell us how to rear our children.
I spanked my two sons when they were young. I don't know if it was bad or good. They are now both married and have incomes that enable their wives to be stay at home moms. Neither of their wives believe in spanking.
I have seven brothers and sisters. Some spanked their children for discipline and some talked. IMO, the nieces and nephews that were spanked were much more pleasant to visit than the brats that were seldom spanked. Genetics may have been the difference. ???

If I was violent towards my friends or my teacher my friends and my teacher would beat my arse.

The problem with school today is if a teacher spanked a kid you would have an attorney suing the school. Don’t think you are the great parent in this.

Spank for serious transgressions such as dangerous behavior that could result in serious injury. Or, as you see fit.

Laying a hand on a child is child abuse. We aren't savages.

Teach your kids to solve problems by beating the shite out of things or people... great parenting. Spanking is for the parents gratification. Usually mentally unstable parents who don't know any other way to express themselves in stressful situations.

All you snowflakes that have a problem with it should spend little while with a child that has no discipline and who’s parents let it roam around as it pleases and you’ll change your tune.
