I receive about 5-10 spam texts per week and try to always ‘Report as Junk’ when deleting.

Things such as WFH opportunities with suggestions to connect on WharsApp, or the simple ‘Hello’, etc.

What happens if one of these numbers gets a lot of ‘Report Junk’ responses. Any repercussions? Does it flag as spam somehow similar to how calls are identified as Spam?

seems like nothing.

it's like playing whack-a-mole with spam calls/texts.

Got a few lately about unpaid "tolls". Haven't gone anywhere with tolls in years.

I believe the worst-case situation is they eventually get some sort of message about potentially being spam and needing to prove otherwise; so, they then spoof a new number to spam from their directory.

Reporting junk doesn't block the sender from sending further messages; you'll need to block the contact separately.

I’ve received at least 12-15 texts from “Josh” with some sports book offering me something which is strange because I’ve never used a sports book. I delete immediately and report as junk. Doesn’t seem to help.

You haven't paid all those tolls that you never went through, please kindly text back your credit card number

Received one of those the other day, and recall reading it and thinking "man that's a good one, I'm sure they will get a few suckers" Then proceeded to show my wife and explain why it's spam, just in case.

Major carriers charge more to customers that don't verify a legitimate business. Carriers also rate limit and eventually stop sending junk messages. Of course, spammers can just buy another number and keep going, but it is a slight improvement from before when they did basically nothing.

Phishing emails I get at work have been ramping up a bit too. They aren't very good though. Subject line has been "PARAMOUNT!!!" and the body has been "Please kindly resend me your phone number, I need to speak with you."

I get no less than 5 calls a day from my industry trying to sell me services and goods and another 2-3 trying to scam me.

If your number isn't saved, it is deleted. I also have unknown number text filtered out of my main text inbox on my iPhone.

Got one a few minutes ago. The sender having a hodge podge of letters@hotmail.com name kind of took the wind out of the scam’s sails.

Never has worked for me. I started texting "STOP" in response and that has cut spam dramatically. They just use another number if you block them.

iOS: Go to message settings, turn on "Filter Unknown Senders."

Reporting as junk is essentially useless since they spoof numbers all the time anyway.

I always get the ones from the AI Chinese ladies who have the wrong number. Every now and then, depending on my bourbon intake, I will have a little fun with them and talk nasty shite.

I always ask the fake women to show me their tits. They leave me alone quickly.

So in that way, similar to real women.

I use Grok to make long arse pretentious replies that are anti whatever they are trying to sell me.

The spam is getting fewer and fewer.
