Read on the news that there were no rats on that boat.

These cruise ships I am sure are pretty diligent about rats, so the person probably got on board sick already.

Diligent or not, to assume there's not a single rat on a huge cruise ship is hilarious.

Rats or Mice. Contact or airborne spread. Gene Hackmans house had it. There were folks who died in Yosemite a few years back from some type of tent/structure they were housed in.

A deadly public health hazard Hantavirus is a serious illness spread through contact with rodents, especially when humans are exposed to droppings, urine or saliva, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2012, before Yosemite Hospitality took over the contract to run concessions at the park, an outbreak infected at least 10 people and killed three. Officials found rodent nests and tunnels in the foam insulation within the walls of the cabins, which were demolished. A Bloomberg investigation published last year documented a store worker who likely contracted hantavirus and lived in on-site employee housing. The illness also killed actor Gene Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, in their New Mexico home earlier this year, the Associated Press reported. Would consider it if you and your Crony's at the WHO can get it to dock at multiple ports on every continent in the next two months.

they wont simply release the passengers into gen. pop. without a lengthy quarantine period.

But they did.
A man and wife who were on that ship returned to Switzerland in late April.
And he started feeling ill, went to the hospital where he is now quarantined.
His wife isn't ill, yet.

Reported in the Daily Mail.

Hantavirus does not spread easily between humans. It requires close & prolonged contact and is typically only spread between spouses or close family members.

Except in this case it wasn't. Different, unrelated parties from different countries caught it. A more accurate statement would be it spreads most easily between spouses or close family members

This is interesting, a few days ago I saw something that said on average, roughly 200 people a year die on cruises. So.... that's 3..

Here's a more detailed list of where the bodies are (one is still on the ship) and where throughout the Eastern Hemisphere sick people are being moved.

And, yes, the ship's doctor is one of the sick ones who was evacuated early on to the Netherlands.

Two Argentine officials investigating the origins of the outbreak said the government’s leading hypothesis is that a Dutch couple contracted the virus while bird-watching in the city of Ushuaia before boarding. They said the couple visited a landfill during the tour and may have been exposed to rodents. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media, with the investigation ongoing.

Wtf? Why would someone visit a landfill??
