My boomer father told me he regrets not spending more time with me when I was little when my oldest child was about 1.

This is a beautiful thing!

Have only one short life. I was not ever going to miss precious time and moments that matter with my kids. I went WFH a decade before it was cool. This is why.

May this trend momentum keep going.

You end up with 13% of the population committing 50% of the crimes.

shite, it's smaller than that. I wonder what percentage of that 13% commits the crimes.

-9 minutes of work?? Oh god! Oh no! The horror!! How can anyone be so callus to the shareholders?! Don’t they know the virtue of bootstraps and dedication and work ethic and etc, buried in my company polo I’ll be yessir!

Give me a fricking break. You can die at your desk and they will replace you before your body is cold. Your kids are young once.

This is an interesting topic

Sounds good on the surface but actual results are questionable. Gen X and millennial’s kids aren’t looking so great

Can we really judge that yet? Most millennials’ kids are under 10.

But I also get that our parents didn't have to worry about the constant pull of screens.

we put up a flag on the "no tablets besides road trips and planes" hill and we are going to die on it

We were lucky to have our first just after lockdowns so it has been easier to be strict on that.

Millenials are less self-centered than the "I need me time" or "I should get what I deserve" or "Future generations just need to work harder" Boomers? Not really a surprise.

I kid, I kid.

But not really.

Yea we have a 6 year old who has never looked at a tablet beyond a few flights. We were lax on TV for a little bit but have dialed back big time. He still watches TV, but we encourage movies over TV and he watches probably half as much as he used to.

Our second and third have basically never watched a screen that didn't have a sporting event on.

i try not to judge but i judge people who bring tablets to resturants. I get it, sometime i am jealous of them having a peaceful dinner, but they won't learn how to behave in public if they are watching cocomelon everytime you go out with them.

Anecdotal but I've seen this more from older parents.

Two different families who both have intelligent, highly successful parents, but didn't have kids until they were late 30s. I was shocked to see one of them give their 3 year old an ipad at lunch and then the dad in the other family complained about how his 3 year daughter takes forever to eat dinner every night because she is preoccupied with the iPad.

Was blown away because neither parent in these families seem like the type to suffer this type of bullshite.

The working-husband-and-housewife norm is not a biological inscription in our genes. It is an invention of the Industrial Revolution. And it is disappearing around the world. In addition to the U.S., fathers’ childcare time is surging in Canada, across Europe, and in other rich countries, such as Japan.

For most of human history we also had men with multiple wives/partners. We still do in some cultures. Men would take over a village, people, or society and take their women for themselves. You don’t get 8 million people on the planet with monogamy. Do women want to go back to that?

Does that chart really max out at 80min per day?

If you want to see what a matriarchal society looks like you don’t have to look far. The black community is run by women especially the family. It’s an absolute train wreck. I’d also like to see more kids go to the fathers in divorce since they do a better job of raising the kids according to stats.

Never thought that sacrificing my tv time to raise my kids would make me a soy.

What do you call a father who watches more tv and neglects his kids?

It’s specifically “child care”, and with children under 18. I imagine the average gets dragged down by people with older children who don’t need much in the way of “child care” anymore. “Playing with kids” is its own category.
