there is lots of coverage of the riots and pictures of burning buildings, but very little to describe the incident itself. Looking through international media, I come up with the following

Kid was driving illegally, he was 17 and minimum age for driving in France is 18
kid was being pursed by police for a lengthy chase
kid piled car up on a barricade allowing police to close in
kid did not comply with instructions to shut down car engine
kid approximately 1-2 seconds before shot, stepped on accelerator, car lurches

cop said gun was aimed at kids leg before car lurched forward

The overall breakdown of respect for the law is what killed the kid. The rioters are doing what they do best, breaking the law

...Hmmm something smells here.

Driving recklessly with no regard for anyone else with a 1-2 ton vehicle...seems like grounds for dismissal of life if you try to take off again.

I was driving big trucks at 15 so I know a 17 year old CAN but it illegal is illegal. Not defending him but "recklessly with no regard for anyone else" can be subjective.
Wonder if he actually put anyone in danger. Again, not defending just curious.

I get what you're saying but I think that doesn't really work here since he led the police on a chase so seems like a fair assumption that folks could have been put in danger.

He was driving an AMG Mercedes Benz

Probably a spoiled rich kid who thought he did not have to answer to anybody when cops told him to stop and pull over

Inviting these people into your country seems to have terrible results.

I have not looked at videos yet, but in the one photo I saw the cops were right against the car with one cop a little more forward than the other. Stepping on accelerator was intentional assault against the cops

Do they have a provisional or probationary period for younger ages to drive?

Saying you are scared as an excuse to accelerate a vehicle at officers is not a valid answer.

If you hit someone with a vehicle you can kill them. I’m not sure what is hard to get with this

How did they know he was 17 and not 18 when they started pursuing him? Had they already stopped him and then he tried to flee?

It sounds like there was a traffic check occurring and this young man attempted to speed around it. Officers pursued him and after they had him stopped and surrounded he refused to get out and shut the car off and in a last attempt floored it with officers surrounding the car. When the car lurched forward an officer shot what turned to be a fatal shot when the kid attempted to use the car as a weapon to get away.

It still amazes me to no end how if this kid got shot and killed by some hoodrat none of them would give a shite, but he's breaking the law and takes one from a cop and it's chaos. The kid is no less dead in either scenario, and in the latter situation he clearly contributed directly to his demise.

These people are broken.
