At this point let the protestors destroy what is left.

Then New Orleans will match.
Half collapsed hotel with graffiti with a workers legs hanging out.
New Orleans East looks like a war zone, lots of abandon buildings with graffiti and businesses have left.
Statues are gone in most of the city leaving empty concrete bases with graffiti.
Let them have it as it will be cheaper than the politicians taking it down plus the bonus they will put graffiti on it for free.
They mise well burn down the church and destroy the gardens around Jackson Square as eventually a politician will take these items down to the ground.

They could put a Starbucks in that space.

I personally don't care about the statues because.. they're statues, but this is somewhat interesting because it's not a memorial of a confederate general.
They vandalized the Lincoln Memorial earlier this week. You know, the guy who was president when slavery was abolished?

We're not necessarily dealing with the sharpest tools in the shed here.

I don’t care if they tear down our civilization. People like you are odd. You have no soul.

Wait, I thought that was yesterday? Maybe the day before? Haven’t we heard that violent protests were coming to NOLA now for two days?

I am sad to say a city my grandparents lived in is rotting away. Prior generations made the city a nice place to raise a family, work, and enjoy the things that made the city great.

The rot and decay that people have allowed to exist will eventually destroy the CBD, uptown, and finally the French Quarter.

Andrew Jackson was the President. Quite the precedent being set if monuments for presidents are now taken down.

I understand Jackson’s follies that go along with his successes. Why must we always let the bad in people outweigh the good? Just look at the Drew Brees fiasco. One “bad” (it wasn’t even bad) moment and a career of good is out the window. But in terms of New Orleans. There likely wouldn’t be a New Orleans without Andrew Jackson. So him having a statue in New Orleans is totally legitimate. The entire city owes him a debt for leading their defense and repelling the British who likely would have burnt the city down.

Sad that people can be lead down this road by a group of professional agitators. There were fours nights of peaceful demonstrations and then the outsiders come to town. When one of the speakers says something to the effect that “the citizens of Orleans Parish are tired of ...”, I immediately wondered where he got his driver’s license. When someone asked where you are from, is it NOLA or Orleans Parish? Outside agitators!

Sad that French quarter businesses, that just reopened, are boarding up there storefronts.

No statue or flower will be damaged in the square. Can only hope the same can be said for those that try. The NOLA police have supported peaceful protest, but will not tolerate any attempted violence or destruction.

People that want statues of traitors fighting for slavery are not the highest IQ people.

People that say this are simple minded and lack nuance. There was a time when both statues of confederate heroes stood and those who fought for civil rights in the same cities. It represented the fact that we still remembered where we came from, had southern pride but also recognized that weve moved on.

Ironic. These fools want to rip down a statue and burn a city down of a man who stopped that but what do we know.

How in the world do people that are so stupid and uneducated come under the impression that what they "know" is an education and is actually right????

I'm okay with bashing a guy for owning and enslaving people.

Why? Historical context and time period are important.

These guys did the best they could with what was known in the World at the time. On the other side they built a damn great nation that we are shitting on and doing everything we can as people to destroy today.

Here's more nuance. The vast majority of the Confederate statues and monuments were put in prominent places in cities and towns across the south to remind black people of their place in society.
