re: Southwest Airlines' new policy gives plus-sized customers up to two additional seats free

I just can't get over the 3rd seat option! That's a whole side row on a 737. If you are that big, do you even fit through the boarding door? These numbers may be wrong, but I found the maximum seat width on a 737-800 is 17.8", so 3 is 53.4". The boarding door width is 48".
Need a plane guy to verify these numbers, but good grief, if an airplane can't accommodate you, it's time to do something about your weight.

I may just exaggerate my size a bit. (Just a slightly above average baw)

I identify as plus size for my next flight

You would applaud this move if you've ever had the opportunity to sit next to a fatty overflowing your arm rest

Don’t planes have a weight limit?

FIFY
What rational reason is there to give them the second and/or third seats?

Can the seats in front of me be removed so I can stretch my legs? TIA

I think airlines should charge by the lb like with luggage. And the planes have different sized seats based on your size and that determines what seat you get.
1. Reserve tickets online with a base deposit. Enter your height and weight range and it determines roughly what section you’ll be in.
2. When you check luggage you step into a private booth (so you don’t get embarrassed being seen by others) on a scale and a beam/sensor system that scans your body shape.
3. Step out, and pay the additional amount you owe. You receive boarding pass

At least we’ll have all the fat fricks corralled on the same airline. The stench is going to be unbearable.

I'm so sick of fatties acting like the victim.

Glad to see them doubling down on their goal of becoming the Greyhound of the sky. Even more glad that this will keep all the fatties not only on a different airline, but at and entirely different airport for me.

Had zero reason to go to the other side of Houston to use Hobby but this and the food vendor fiasco will keep me from ever using them.

What if you're a typical OT male and your BMI is 50 but it's all muscle?
Unless they're pulling out a scale and body fat calipers, I think the "identifying" part is on the honor system

Guess who is paying for those free seats.

So people choose to be so large they need three seats. We chose to have two children.
They should fly free until 18.

I will stretch my body across 2 seats and then say my body is uncomfortable if they try to push me back to one. Everyone needs to step up and stop this nonsense.

What is stopping a normal size person like me requesting a complementary seat for me and my whole family?
Can I request a complementary seat if I’m not a morbidly obese whale? I too need extra room to not encroach on anyone else’s space.
Are they going to measure me to make sure I deserve complementary seats? If not, what metric are they using to give complementary seats to plus sized customers? If so, who gets to provide/conduct the measurements?
